While waiting to hear back from Red tech support, I figured I'd see if anyone here has encountered a similar problem with their Red One MX camera.

When I turn on the camera, the menu screen on the back of the camera turns on and off, on and off, on and off, repeatedly stuck in a loop. When I press the power button again, it turns off. This happens on both ac and battery power. I discovered that if I allow this to happen twice and then on the third time turning on the camera, I continue holding the power button down for about 10 seconds until the menu screen shows "initializing" and immediately release the power button, the camera successfully continues onto the boot up process. As long as I don't touch anything while camera boots up, the process completes and everything seems fine. However, the camera occasionally shuts off without warning. This only happens every once and while. Some times it operates for hours with no problems.

The first issue seems like a software booting problem or a problem with the power button, but the camera occasionally shutting off unexpectedly seems more like an overheating or hardware problem. Any idea what might be causing this or how to fix it? If it requires a repair, what cost am I looking at here?

I had a problem with the power button of my Red One once which required to push the button twice every time you wanted to power up or down.

Repair costs at Red were very reasonable, if memory serves me around 200 USD or so.

Thanks for the reply, Sander.

I still haven't heard back from Red tech support. Guess I'll need to call them again tomorrow.
