What are the best fan settings for long interviews on the Red One MX? I dont mind some fan noise I can always move the camera back and put on a longer lens. My Scarlet is pretty much useless right now for this kind of set-up as it has a leaf blowing mind of its own!

... I always disable QT proxies (in camera) for long interviews.

If you can put your scarlet on 45% fan you are able to make long interviews. I do it al the time with my Epic "ED".

Thanks for the feedback guys! How do you disable quicktime proxies? I have no need for them anyways.

Yes there are settings on the Red One but they are limited in comparisson to Epic/ Scarlet. You can't set specific fan speed or anything like that. But you can set fan to: "Hot, Standard, Quiet, and Auto" I believe....

With that said has anyone ever had any issues with the fan popping on really loud during a long interview session?

no, never. The red mx is a great interview camera. I use it sometimes instead of my epic. I usually shoot 4k hd for interviews so I'm not giving anything up.

That is exactly what I am planning on shooting instead of Scarlet. Awesome, thanks!

You'll be perfectly fine with Red One during interview.

In menu from the R1 you can choose to set proxis off !!

Ha Brandon, I wouldn't go that far... sound mixers were cursing "the computer" for three years here in New York... maybe you're on nice big roomy stages, and we're crammed into low ceiling apartments!

Seriously, the fan settings in the Red One are your friend. Whenever a sound mixer would complain about hearing it in the mix I would show them those and they'd flip out. I must've ruined a dozen AC's morning when the sound guy showed them the hidden setting on the next job... sorry guys...

Or those "gel" ice packs... Freeze them with a fold in the middle, then keep then in a small ice chest.... Then they fit right on top of the curve of the R1... Chilled cam, quiet fan (shot a few long interviews on hot rooms )

thanks for the excellent feedback guys. I remember shooting some 15-20 minute interviews on the Red One a couple years back but couldnt remember if there was any noise issue. I guess since my Scarlet has such an attitude I assumed the Red One did too ;)

Heheh, Portable air-conditioning for my camera.....I can't tell you what a pain in the ass it was for ME to try and stay cool on a hot day let alone worrying about the camera!! LOL I hope it doesn't ever get an attitude and start making me tell it bed time stories! lol

I can recall going to at least 45 minutes continuous with the Red One in interviews and never having a "leaf blower" fan situation. We generally took breaks every so often just to allow the interview subject to take a break, go to the bathroom, grab some water, relax for a moment, and then come back. I don't think it's worth the stress to put somebody under lights for hours at a time without giving them a break.
