  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED One marketing campaign

But it is also true there is a lot of fear and resistance out there. Personally, I like this. It makes RedUsers look like daring pioneers. But for rental companies, and for the Red company itself, I hope some of the fear abates. It will only take one or two successful features, I imagine.

Christopher, I agree with one small variation... I think it will only take one successful Indie movie to end all debate. Most people think that with the proper post facilities a production company can make just about anything look good. But if an Indie movie maker sells a RED feature, then everyone will likely agree that the camera, the workflow, the accessibility by the masses, is all the real deal.

Red is growing by leaps and bounds but Jim is no stranger to what it takes to build a successful company - especially when it comes to communicating with customers. Right now my frustration lies in clear communication with the company. I have repeatedly asked for a review of my order by a senior RED Team member with particular attentiontion to critical spares - finally I resorted to positing my order on this forum and did get some limited response (thanks to all who replied).

...

It is never useful to carp, even a bit, without offering a solution. One possibility might be a section of the site with some user profiles that detail packages and workflow.

In our "your order is nearly ready to ship" emails, we do offer recommendations on accessories. We are also developing "suggested" configurations based on environment for our website.

If you ever have a question about your configuration, just send a PM or email to me. Or Sean in Tech Support. Or Kelly. Big Jon. We have plenty of people ready and willing to help.

We, be it via this forum or other mediums, try to communicate as openly and transparently as possible.

Thanks, BC

good point man.. good point.

I'm working on a new indie feature that I plan to shoot on a RED. Its a great story, sad, but from people I've told the treatment to, they say its good and gives them goose bumps. I look forward to sharing footage with everyone on REDUSER. Its called "The Road to Nowhere" but even though it is still in pre production, I hope it will be my first feature on the silver screen late 2009, early 2010... Someone may have something big before, but just incase there isn't something, you can look forward to seeing my story.

Jarred you should head down to West Texas and DP #6's indie film for him.

It a lovely story about a man and his flatulent goat... though I may have the man part wrong.:)

Some might find the sound of a flatulent goat to be musical... heh heh heh... :)

No cell phones were harmed during shooting...

To be realistic; that effort afforded you by RED is NOT something ALL RED owners will receive.
It wasn't realistic to give out cell phone numbers to several thousand RED owners after all. So RED certainly was more attentive to the original 100 owners than subsequent orders, precisely because of what the original poster in this thread pointed out...one could surmise that the customer support/ordering process has declined since then.

Now, I'd simply be happy to receive our invoice for our RED ONE, and not someone else's invoice, like we did.

Pig,

I've never used the number provided. I really enjoy talking with Jim and Ted, but their time is better spent doing what they do best. I'll catch up with them at NAB instead of bothering them with support issues.

Further, I know for a fact that Jim peruses these forums like nobody's business. If I had a suggestion for an improvement, I'd post it here and I know he'd read it--along with most of the staff at RED.

All of my customer support requests have gone through BC and Kelly via e-mail--just like anyone else.

If the original 100 were favored in any way over anyone else, I haven't noticed it. But then again, I was writing a check for two cameras when 90% of NAB 2006 attendees were calling RED total bullsh*t.

A little bit of our early-adopter faith might have made for some extra goodwill--and I'll unabashedly take that any day.

Red #20, shot with Red #378, its younger sibling :)

Hi from Japan!

Maybelle is NOT flatulent... she just has, well, digestive issues.

edit: and please stop referring to her as a goat. She doesn't like that nickname.

edit 2: and before you say anything about her smell, FYI with the lights off and after a nice rubdoun with BBQ sauce, she smells delicious.

Torrey, from the look and feel of it, you may very well be right. Congrats and here's hoping much success for you. 'Cause if you've proved the value of an Indie feature shot on RED, you will be making it easier for the rest of us.
