  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE M-X upgrade question?

I think there are a lot of people who would be willing to "rent" the M-X sensor for six months until their Epic is shipped. If your camera works regularly, you can recoup that cost fairly easily.

Maybe the work is "Pre-purchase", you pre-purchase your M-X sensor for your epic.

I just hope it's not $4.5K and then the regular upgrade price as announced. Of course it would mean a lot of work fo RED swapping out sensors twice, but i'd wait 18 months for EPIC if I had M-X now.

It should raeally also be noted that conversations like this are possible because of the kind of company RED is. If we were talking about any other manufacturer I'd be getting laughed off of the internet. Can you imagine if you had bought a SONY product a year ago and they were releasing a newer better camera today. You'd be SOL.

But with RED it seems like this could be possible.

So thanks RED.

But remember. . . Epic is 5K, whereas RED is 4.5K. I'm not sure the X uses the exact same sensor (size-wise) as the Epic-X.

I just want that new chip in my One. . .

it's the same sensor but the Red 1 hardware limits the frames size to 4.5k. The same sensor in an epic gives you 5k and can produce higher frame rates because the Epic will have better hardware and more computing power on board.

So it would be cool if you could buy your EPIC and use the sensor in the R1 until your epic is ready.

I'd rather pay a bit more and get 5K out of the M-X on my One. Any possibility of that?

Nope, but you'd be getting the images and Dynamic Range that JIm is has been showing us because, as far as I know he is photgraphing that with the M-X sensor inside a R1 body.

As I said, the R1 hardware would not allow the 5K in the R1, but we'd get better, cleaner images, lkke the ones being posted, with the M-X in R1.

It is indeed remarkeable.
