Right off the bat, there's no budget. But you'll be fed. If that doesn't throw you off an adventure, read on!

I'm working with British singer / songwriter and somewhat Twitter rockstar Noush Skaugen on a feature pitch kit that also includes "Shine a Light" style concert footage of her show http://noushskaugen.com/tickets/ at the Monto (Water Rats).

The pitch kit trailer footage showcases a bleak sci-fi vision of London in the year 2025 just after the end of the financial crisis that lead to the unification of the European Republic where the few MI6 agents that are left prepare to make their last stand against a totalitarian regime taking over Britain.

We plan to intercut with footage from the live show to create an 'official music video' package and essentially a 3-prong approach to investors. The music video is targeted to create a higher visibility and reach people where a trailer can’t.

Once we got funding to do the real thing we’d be keen on working with the same crew again. For the simple reason that you’d already have a feel for it and we can save a lot of time that way. Not just as a thank you for helping out when we needed you most.

Hi Frank

Might be interested, but you are aware that the Red is not really a great low ambient light camera (although Build 20 looks like an improvement)?

Also, I remember the Water Rats stage as being tiny, not particularly well or interestingly lit, so not great for getting good interesting angles or decent exposure!

And as it's a very small venue, live public show I assume we will have very little control over the timing, lighting or framing of it?

Does it have to be shot on RED, or dare I say, would an EX3 or 5DMkII be more suited to this situation?

Give me a call or email if you want to meet up for a chat about it.

Regards
Eric

Eric makes a good point about choice of camera but the stage is plenty big enough for shooting - we shot a Pogues video there a few years back.

Also, I think you should just call it as it is, rather than dressing it up as something that it isn't. Basically, you need a kit and crew for a music video shoot for no pay. There are always plenty of people willing to help, but call it as it is rather than dangle the perpetual carrot on-a-stick.

Good point about the MKII, that could work although it has limited grading options, but I shot with a D90 2 weeks ago and after some high light fixing it graded OK. MKII would also give me a realistic way to test my theory on the "re-film" gizmo.

So I'm definitely open to that for the live show part.

I haven't seen a floor plan yet and am still in Germany so I'll see it when I get there I guess.

@Liam: We're trying to sell a feature here. To get it done as a co-dependent deal rather than a fully studio dependent deal. And to do so you have to present more than just a good script and credible actors. That's why we're going for a trailer that looks as close to the real thing as we can get. The music video part serves both purposes, to be a music video (yep!) and to point more eyeballs to the trailer when we put it on IMDb.

Only if everything else fails we'll go the traditional route of spending years shopping it to studios.

There's still plenty of work on my end once the footage is conformed and edited. As in replacing the light flashes with CG explosions bc we can't do practical effects at this stage (permits and $$$) and Houdini was "easy" enough to pick up after the fxphd course and their "starving artist" edition goes to 1080p which can be uprezzed to 2K without too much loss.

If Gareth Edward's can do 'Atilla the Hun' all alone in After Effects, there is no reason why I can't do the post on this all alone as well.

I just got back and got your PM. I'm still not clear on what you actually want to do. Is it just filming the Water Rats gig, or more than that?

Eric
