We will be receiving our new Red-One very soon, and need insurance to cover it and related equipment.

What kind of insurance do you guys have? What company provides it? Can you get insurance for not only loss due to fire, theft, etc, but also coverage when you're out of the country? And, against damage too.

Our home owners insurance company (State Farm) will not cover professional equipment, so I'm looking for an insurance company with reasonable rates that won't bankrupt a small production company like us.

Any info will be most appreciated. And, contact info on the company you use would be helpful too.

Thanks.

I have mine insured through Insuremyequipment.com, they are great and reasonable pricing. They cover out of country as well. I think they charge about
$1500 annually for each hundred thousand dollars insured, but you can get a quick quote on their site.

Someone on here said that they are good to real with for claims as well.

A good thing to discuss with your insurer is whether you want to insure it for rentals and other times the camera isn't in your possession.

Many owners require renters to provide insurance, and this is really a barrier. Better to insure it yourself and charge a bit extra if anyone else is in possession.

Even if you don't plan to rent, or rent a lot, good thing to have in your back pocket.

I also have State Farm on the house and cars. When I quit my job and went solo I had them draw up a Business Policy too... it's like $650 a year, gives me 100k in gear protection and 1 million liability. They've been pretty good, but some of the rental companies require a more involved COI that kind of threw them for a loop. Now that I think about it... since I picked up the Panchros 100k feels a little anemic.

Cheers,
CB

Does insuremyequipment.com cover accidental damage and theft?

Whoever you choose, don't under-insure. Record serial numbers, take photographs, keep purchase paperwork, mark your items distinctively. You might guess that I just lost about $150,000 of equipment to a planned theft from our solidly secured, alarmed office premises. Life has been complicated for the last week as a result, but if I hadn't had a complete and detailed inventory, as well as a substantial insurance policy, life would be a lot worse than complicated.

Consider alongside equipment cover and public liability; Production insurance to cover re-shooting and theft of media. Hire-in cover to protect you against necessary hire bills if your gear is lost or damaged. And finally, this may just be a UK thing, but check whether your insurer is waiving all cover in the event of terrorism- its a favourite exclusion, yet often costs almost nothing to re-instate.

yes, they are great!

Just to double check, BuyMyInsuranceNow.com is the same as InsureMyEquipement.com, correct? It forwarded me to that address when typing in InsureMyEquipement.com

We use Reiff Insurance in New York for our production insurance and that includes equipment coverage, and they have been great. But I second the suggestion to make sure you have all the information you can on file about the equipment's purchase date, cost, serial number and so on. I am sad to say I have never lost money on insurance. I have had equipment stolen and damaged in shipping, and damaged by the security guys at the airport and other surprises and I have always been covered. But check that coverage out very carefully, because nobody ever expects that awful phone call and you want to make sure you are really covered -- not just thinking you are covered. And if your insurance deal seems too good to be true, I'd take another look at it.
