I expect Epic to sell in the tens of thousands in the long run, and Scarlet to sell in the hundreds of thousands in the long run...and both of these in spite of a somewhat slow world economy.
I'm surprised people are so skeptical about Scarlets selling in the hundreds of thousands, because RED has already sold nearly 10,000 RED Ones. Surely dropping the entry-level price from about $30k to about $5k would increase unit sales by 10x or more. $30k is the price of a professional tool; $5k is something enthusiastic hobbyists can afford. It's almost exactly the same amount I paid for my Canon XL1 in 1998. And although I haven't tried it yet I think a $2,000 Core i5 iMac would be more than sufficient to edit RED footage.
100,000 cameras seems like a lot if you consider the 300,000,000 population of the US - you are saying that 1/10th of 1% would buy one - but remember, RED is now a global enterprise and so there is probably a market of a few million independent filmmakers worldwide.
I could never afford a RED One but I'm sure a Scarlet Fixed is in my future ... and I can tell from the boards here that I am not alone.
