My red is just not reading the hard drive. It says none is attached. Yes the drives read just fine on my other Red camera. The cable checks out as well. So I am stumped I just recently put on a Birger mount and not sure if that is the issue but I have a shoot tomorrow and well. Help...

If the drives and cable read fine on your other camera, then it's likely your camera. Check the drive connector on the camera, but also check none of the pins on the drive cables has been pushed in. Are both cameras identically set up in both hardware and firmware?

Try formatting the drive as FAT32 on your computer first, before trying to format it on the camera.

Try updating the camera firmware, or rolling back to the previous firmware.

Try removing the Birger mount, but if the camera worked with drives at some point with the Birger mount installed, then that's not a likely cause.

Had the same issue. The sound board had to be replaced by RED in NYC. now works well. burned a couple of drives in the process though :( but all worked out.

For what it's worth - the good news is that you most likely can still use side module (CF or SSD) to record. I could

I'm wondering if you could have shorted the i-link cable for the lens mount when you changed mounts?
That's always something you need to be careful about.

Exact same history as well. So probably best just to open a support ticket and take it from there...

Weird that the sound board has any bearing on the Red Drive not mounting!

My thoughts exactly. I guess it should probably be called the "sound-and-a-bunch-of-other-I/O-stuff board"... :)

Just a question. What does having the sound board replaced cost?

My R1 is working flawlessly these days but if this is a potential issue I'd rather be prepared.

I think about 2K - if you have a good one it will last forever though. A worse problem is the logic board. However, it's been a while since I've heard of a Red one MX failing (in fact I've only ever hear of Red One Ms failing)

Love your R1 and it will love you back :-)

Maybe not quite that expensive - I had the audio board replaced at Red UK last autumn and the bill was 685€ for the board and 232€ for service labour, for a total of 1,002€ VAT 0%. Fedex both ways on top of that of course... Also Red did a lot of very helpful troubleshooting via e-mail prior to sending in the camera, which I presume was not counted into the service bill. But yeah, depending on your shipping costs and the specifics of your case, $2k could probably be pretty much in the ballpark for the total cost.
