I just transcode some sample footage from a music video.....I must say i think it is better than epic......????????????????? OK OK HANDS DOWN THE EPIC IS THE KING!!!LOL

no but i had some Red Epic files but maybe it was not at a higher bite rate

You can't really judge footage from a separate shoot. So many variables to make a real comparison.

Was it the same DP, same light, same details in the scene, same settings in camera, same lenses, exposure, depth of field, competence of DP? All those things and more affect the images your looking at as a comparison. Not saying your wrong, just want to make it clear that you can't really make a proper comparison in this case.

I can see where you could compare the R1 to the Epic, but I think once you've worked with Epic you start to appreciate it as a second generation Red Camera. Its size, functionality, and personally the way it handles skin tone are what sell me on the camera.

Thanks buddy I'm just having fun film making is a hobby for me now I'm in film school I'm an American solider it's good to do something I love ... Going from varicams to DSLR to RED so I'm not new to the game...

No doubt the Red 1 is an amazing camera. I've been shooting with it for years now, but the Epic is definitely a slight improvement in every category. I'd still shoot R1MX any day and be happy.

Actually I think that to say one camera is better than another might be a bit daft anyway. I have a Kodak ZX1. I can put it in my pocket and carry it around. It shoots 720p at 60fps and uses cheap SD cards. It's amazing, you can't put an epic in your pocket like that!

Different cameras do different things. They are all good if you find where the magic lies.

Having said all that I like a bit of sillyness every so often to make me smile!
