  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE Film Out Workflow Diagram with FCP/Color

I told Luca to do that but he did not see it there, weird.

It seems some versions of final cut studio 2 don't have the luts installed.

This may help with FCP/Color LUTs...

After a lot of pain trying to work out why Apple have so badly messed-up their LUT implementation on FCP/Color we now have the 3D LUT Builder working as expected.

If you're interested a demo version can be downloaded here:

http://www.lightillusion.com/cubebuilder.htm
(As the new website is still being put together you will be redirected to Digital Praxis!)

There have been a number of issues with the FCP/Color implementation, including using a 16 point cube, rather than 17, and the .mga format (as developed by Pandora) actually being a 1D LUT format, not 3D...

However, the format as used by FCP/Color is now operational in the 3D Cube Builder.

If anyone has an comments on the LUTs I'd love to hear them.

I've Steve, I've tried the demo and it seems interesting. I've tried to make a Color lut and your software did it right. But I didn't understand what kind of lut it has generated. I mean what kind of values: rec 709, gamma 2.2 etc.

Hi Luca,

The builder is making a LUT specific to the colour you are working with.
It's a manual process, although I can supply some very good starting points to get you going.

You can them simply modify these to take into account your viewing environment.

There's a new version posted now with Colour Space Conversion and LUT Burn-in (with batch processing, forma conversion and re-sizing) which may be a help.
