I thought i'd heard this somewhere or with the red one mx, am I stuck with firewire

thanks

Stuck with Firewire. A long time ago, we had cables that went from the LEMO port to eSATA but a firmware update caused them to cease functioning. Back to Firewire. SOrry to be the bearer of bad news.

How about an esata to usb 3 adapter. Isn't there esata on the red drives?

No eSATA on the R1 REDRAIDs. The fastest possible setup would be FW800 > Thunderbolt but don't expect TB speeds. By over-provisioning the bus with a TB backend, you'll just get the finest FW800 speed.
