Hello my name is Daniel but i usually go by Benny to my friends. I was wondering what i can do to get into the field of a D.I.T. I have worked with the Red One camera system a lot as an A.C. and really enjoy it but, i wanted to get more into the HD world and the realm of the D.I.T. Any suggestions would be great thanks.

Well being a DIT and being an AC are really two different things. As a DIT you work handling data management and whatever that entails, such as camera support or rendering out dailies. Having your own equipment to handle all of this would make you a valuable person. Brook Willard is a Reduser and a union DIT, he's probably the best person to ask about how to get into being a DIT. You could join Local 600 and pay the thousands of dollars to get in. But I'm not sure that guarantees you work as a DIT.

No, joining the union will not guarantee you work as a DIT as was said above. just confirming that

As D.I.T of D.A.S you are responsible for the "negative's" journey on drives. you are the last point of reference before that card or hardrive goes back to camera to be reformated and re-used. A good DIT can spot a problem on the fly, and gives production security and sanity that their digital neg is ok. and that is correct getting into the Union does not guarantee that you get work. I get digital media in the office everyday ,and they mostly come from the 3 most popular DIT's in town. you know who you are, big smiles.
