  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE confusion...

A Scarlet does not replace or out-perform a RED ONE. Due to the limited size of Scarlet body and the reduced electronics capability, many options you have come to love in your RED ONE will be missing from Scarlet. Like several frame size, frame rate options and display scaling options. The reduced "brain" volume means less room for compression engine, heat management, etc.

Don't be confused that the RED ONE is obsolete or being replaced by Scarlet.

Now EPIC is a different story. And that is why we have provided an upgrade path for our RED ONE owners.

What I'm interested in, besides sensor upgrade, are the future Redcode compression options for RED ONE, Jim.

Question from the other thread, which will probably go unanswered...

So S35 Sensor Scarlet can NOT shoot 4k @ XXFPS and 3k @ XXXFps?
 
Jim, will a RED ONE with a sensor upgrade offer the same dynamic range/reduced noise benefits as one of the other two platforms utilizing that same sensor while still retaining frame rate/image size flexibility?

My question since 9:01am this morning. I want the scarlet with the nikon mount and the bigger sensor, but i also want the frame rate flexibility of the 2/3 model.

Am I out of luck?

Hey Jim,

Don't get me wrong. I think that the new cameras coming out look great, and I'm sure your team will be able to deliver on all the hype. I think most of us current owners who are concerned, are concerned about the investment we made. I think it would go a long way to ease our minds if a list or some kind of chart showed exactly what the differences will be between the RED One and Scarlet. I understand things are subject to change so let me rephrase by saying the "planned" differences between RED One and Scarlet. From what I have read so far, Scarlet seems to have everything I would need which means I would switch over to it ASAP. Just want to know my RED One won't completely plummet in value when I make the switch.

I know you don't want to talk too much about the new cameras, but the RED ONE....

will it be upgradeable to Monstro? For some reason I thought there was a limitation due to processing power??

Probably because that's all we've been left with. Everything's all well and good, can you really fault anyone for wanting to know more details or "guessing" at them?

It's a part of the hype machine...

I didnt mean any offense Jim. Im enthralled with what you guys dropped today. As the displayed specs stand right now, Im DEFINITELY getting the 2/3 interchangeable lens scarlet. If it turns out that i am able to get more of my desired specs in one package, all the better!:biggrin:

Cool, I think this will give all of us current owners a better idea of what Scarlet means to our current investment in a RED One.

I think people continue to guess because they get teased all night long into the wee hours of the night by a maniac genuis.

Get some sleep and stay away from the forum! You put out the little fires. Get your chart done!

We all want to see it and you back here refreshed in 2 days! :)
 
i shit my pants today along with our partners and friends, looking forward to playing with the new toys. No other company would let u "return" an older product for a substantial upgrade... not even oakley ha... personally i'm happy we've made our investment with the red team!
 
red's also drawn up a product line that's finally accessible to anyone in any kind of financial situation. They've also made it possible to upgrade anything you buy from them from day 1. I think that's brilliant! anyway gonna see 007 in a few hours can't wait...

I completely agree. I would NEVER be able to afford a Red One or Epic, but am very thankful that Red announced the specs on Scarlet ... Red, please do not change the specs on Scarlet(dumb them down) because of everyone's response to the announcement.
