Red One battery/hdmi glitch??

Was on a shoot yesterday, when the battery died. When we put on a fresh battery, it wouldn't boot up when I pressed the main power button. It kept trying to boot for a few seconds, then shut down.
I figured maybe something was shorting out, so I removed the HDMI cable to my SmallHD DP4, and it powered up fine.

Is there a reason for this I should be aware of?

Were you able to duplicate this scenario again? Could have been an isolated mystery type of thing

Not the same scenario, but yesterday I had the monitor refuse to sync with R1, despite repeated unplugging, turning off and on, etc..
It required a R1 reboot to get it to sync. Very time consuming and annoying on set.

I've had that symptom before. Not sure what to do about that one.

I've had this happen with older batteries. Basically, it takes a giant amount of volts to power up a R1. Once it gets going it's less. Example: With a Red Drive plugged in one of my older batteries won't power the camera up. Unplug the Red Drive no problem. It's possible that the HDMI connection drained a small about of power or possibly you were running the DP4 from the same power supply. Just enough to drain a modicum of power.

These cameras are power whores. So my guess is your battery was not max power or not providing quite enough volts/amps. Hope this helps. j

By any chance were you using the 90 degree hdmi elbow adaptor that came with the DP4? I had some camera crashing issues with this a while back.

Interesting Theory Jimmy. Leo, you could test Jimmy's theory by plugging the R1 into the AC adapter vs. using your batteries.

That sounds about right, it was an old battery! Thanks for the info, it makes sense. I think I need new ones.
