Red #126 recently returned from Maine after shooting a 120fps world record 900 degree inverted spin by skiier Simon Dumont on a 35' quarter pipe. His record setting air was 36 feet above the lip, upside down - over 70 feet straight up.
To run the camera on the 80' crane, we designed a brand new stop-start switch with a removable Lemo to XLR whip that gives camera stop-start over standard XLR audio cable with tally feedback. Now if you get into trouble for cable just hit up your sound guy for an extension cord. It worked flawlessly on the Akela shoot and we're now offering the XLR switch as a new Monstercine product. We've tested up to 125 foot runs over 3 separate attached cables without error and the system ran outdoors in Maine for a week on the Akela.
We'll post pics of the final design sometime next week and the switch will be available for sale in the next 2-3 weeks on Monstercine.com and Birns & Sawyer. Estimated price is $226 US.
We'll also will be releasing a wireless stop-start in early July so please email us on the site to get your name on the list.
Here a few a few pics of the Red on the Akela controlled by our XLR remote switch. Apparently Red has no fear of heights...
