Im sorry, I didn't mean to be rude in any way. I just couldn't follow your questions. They were alot of them and didn't make any sense to me because you pinpointed questions that really didn't seem like questions at all but rather your statements and beliefs. I thought your calculation example was a bit funny though because I thought everyone knows that technology becomes cheaper over time. But apparantly that smiley didn't come through very good :/ (Edit: I also re-read my post and saw that I missed a smiley, so its understandable that it sounded like Im a jackass.)

Well thankfully others took the time and responded to all questions.

I apologize,Peter!
I was rough too.

Hi Vlatko, regarding the AF-101 I wasn't kidding you. It is an alternative if you don't have the money and need the light weight and long shooting times. Heck, even the 1k Euro GH-2 can be an alternative if you just want to go out making films and are an aspiring young man without the money to buy an Epic or the reputation to get hired for a job with one.

The Epic is going to be the best digital cine camera out there for quite a while, but normally you don't own such a camera, you rent it. Even if RED has made owning them quite a bit easier than before – the Sony F35 used to be around a quarter million…

The Epic will be a very good photographic camera too, I'd suppose it can take on every DSLR out there, but not the best of all photo cameras – as you already noticed.

Yeah,I understand that Epic would be the best for motion, not for stills, unfortunately :(
So,what or where is the problem to do it best device 2 in 1 for motion & stills ?!

Most of the answers you can find by visiting the RED website, all the BIG MINUSES that you have are coming from a view of someone with a Flipcam, EPIC is a serious production camera, film cameras are huge, when you go from a Film camera, genesis, f35, to an EPIC, its so much smaller and lighter, and highest resolution.

Random answers:

the cameras are black so they aren't reflective, you don't want to see the reflection of your neon green camera in your actors sunglasses.

What kind of camera are you coming from that 8 seconds to startup is a long time? Maybe for the prosumer video cameras, but for a 5k camera, thats crazy time!

And again, where are you coming from with battery life? REDvolt power the Epic for 45minutes, if thats not enough, get Redbricks, which power the Epic for 3 hours or more.

Same for storage, tape only lasts 62minutes, film 4-8minute reels. have 2 hours on a single card is fantastic.

I feel like you are trying to troll asking questions no one would.

Hi Zac,
Please, don`t tell 8 seconds to startup it is crazy time, even for the 5k camera, because what you will tell "tomorrow",when they will make 6 seconds,or even less?!
I am sure, you will tell, the same thing, which I am seeing and saying now,at the present. You will say 8 seconds are too slow (be honest with yourself) you shouldn`t answer to me!
Anyway,I dont want to argue, anymore, because you couldn`t see the forest, because of the tree :)

Hi Vlatko,

Welcome to REDUSER :cheers2:

Unless you know of some hardware that everyone else has missed out on, USB 3.0 is not currently faster than a decent eSATA implementation. USB 3.0 may have a faster speed on paper, but in real life every test I have seen has shown that eSATA is currently the faster and more reliable of the two for moving large volumes of data. This may change in the near future as USB 3.0 matures and hardware/firmware/software improves.

Also, RED did note that if USB 3.0 becomes a highly desirable standard (which it is not right now, due to the above issues), that there will be a way to upgrade the SSD reader to use USB 3.0.

If you need a 3-5lb camera, RED won't be it. You might want to look at "prosumer" cameras to find such lightweight equipment.

If you need a 5+lb camera, RED offers a lot for its size, weight, and price. For instance, a Sony F35 weighs 11lb without a lens or media. An Alexa weighs 16lbs without a lens or media. An Arri 435 film camera weighs about 14lbs without film or mag. So comparably, RED is both very light and extremely powerful.

Well...about usb 3.0 vs. eSATA we can have polemic :)
By me even if eSATA is faster now,USB 3.0 is the future and sata is past.
We are looking for the future here (RED is future, isn`t it?!)
About the weight, yes,I know that other cameras are heavier, but how I said: I am NOT interested in other, just in RED.So,I would like to have in my hands lighter RED,for example: 3kg body(with battery, memory and LCD)+ 2kg(the heaviest lens). My opinion is that lenses are to heavy (but they can cut of from the weight of body too)
Believe me,there is still what they can do.There are some materials, which are lighter - materials which doesn`t exist in USA at all,but anyway, that is other subject(I don`t want to talk much about that).

Vlatko... David Mullen is here TO teach us stuff, including manners. He has had an influence on how I post, and I own the place. I suspect that your reaction is partly due to language barriers.

We all would like to have you here... but calming down is a good way to begin. You will find people very patient with all you ask if you are respectful. Opinions are welcome. Questions are welcome. Wildly aggressive responses are not.

Jim

Jim,
I am too calm unlike some people...
My style is to provoke(but,NOT on bad way,NOT to insult somebody),because I would like to give a part from me,your product/device to become much better.
If everybody says: "Oh my God,this is awesome...",you can not go forward. You will be satisfied always. But if you have people like me,who provoke and most of the time aren`t satisfied(but by logic, not by fantasy and some not realistic dreams in their head) you can go far far away :)
