  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED-OAKLEY Video Eyewear

Sorry to say but there is nothing new about "video glasses". They first came out in the late 80's early 90's and were a bit of a fad for a while. Steady cam guys were the first to use them and then some guys used them for hand held work. 1996 was the last time I ever saw them on set and when the cam op pulled them out we all had a bit of a chuckle because we had not seen them for a few years before that because cameramen had discovered that the view finder and steady cam lcd's worked better.

Video glasses seemed like the best idea ever when they came out but in the end they were just a big flop. New technologys are great but quite often we find its not best to re-invent the wheel.

Finner, the skepticism will bring you nowhere. Where you would like to go? If you cannot re-invent you also cannot invent. Remember Renaissance, Leonardo , Galileo Galilei, Newton...etc...it was about to invent and re-invent (Re-naissance>>French for ‘rebirth’, or Rinascimento in Italian).

We sure are, which is exactly why we must be careful not to turn into Peter Pan.

RED being what RED is, one of the most revolutionary advances in technology up there with the magnetic tape, the CD and the cell phone, makes it sufficient that the eyeglasses idea is innovative, not necessary. The same goes for any other "new" technology that is suggested.

In other words, simply because someone posts an idea on REDuser.com does not mean that the idea is as innovative as RED.

I would say that the RED is for some people the most revolutionary cam just because of its price and not because of the technological advantage, vision
and RE-INVENTION.

I'm sorry I have to disagree. RED is innovative in many ways. Technologically because of Mysterium and because of REDCODE. Businesswise, their relationship with their consumers is also innovative and it is a methodology that any company could adopt.

The price is just an added perk.

No skepticism honest. I am not calling you down on your idea at all. In fact what I am pointing out is that it was a great idea that sold well for a while but people found that even though the idea was good in theory the product in actuality did not work as well as traditional models.

It seems to me Sanjin that you were not aware that video glasses had already been invented and used for camera work. Which I totally understand because they were such a dismal failure that you just never see them on set anymore. Your idea is good and someone already made a lot of $$ off of it unfortuately they just do not work as well as the traditional models.

Now as far as re-inventing goes I think its great but this idea has run its course and if you want to re-invent the "video glasses" expect to have a basement full of them for many years.

Finner, it was just to give them an idea and if they can RE-INVENT "video eyewear/glasses" or cannot it's up to them not to me.

RAZRWIRE is just beginnig, after the audio in (Motorola mobile razr phone) should come a video input that is connected to the RED ONE and is coming in the sizes starting from 720p to 4K.
