Hi,

Anyone else having issues viewing Red MX on Odyssey7Q? Are the Scarlet, Epic & Dragon having the same issues?

Whenever I connect the monitor to my MX via SDI or even the 720 Preview the Odyssey7Q goes black!!!!! I tried changing setting between 50.00 HZ or 59.94 HZ. and preview between MENUS (DVI) or VIDEO (720p) nothing. I even tried HMI but nothing.

Am I doing something wrong here? Is it Red or is it Odyssey7Q? Maybe Mitch Gross can chime in?

Thanks
-Jean

Hi Jean,

Have you tried selecting 25hz in the red hdsdi output setting? It's a true progressive signal ergo select 25hz for a 1080 25p signal, 50hz should work for a 1080 50p signal which I think the Odyssey can record. The red epic / scarlet hdsdi is recordable up to 1080 60p. Never seen what 1080 50p or 1080 60p actually looks like but I bet it's pretty good on the red as I love the clean signal you can achieve when capturing the epic / Scarlet's SDI signal. I always liked the 72050p look on sports and music performance material shot on Varicams.

Hope that makes sense?!?! I don't have my camera in front of me to tell you exactly where to change the hdsdi brain output settings but I know it's there's somewhere ; )

Hope it works out!

PS if you're on a Red One, I wouldn't have a clue!

Sadly am using this with the MX and there is not a lot of options with frame rates & signal frequency outputs like on the Epic/Scarlet. I am suspecting its because the MX outputs 720 & Odyssey doesn't support it :(

Right now the Odyssey is paperweight with my MX! I Bought it for both monitoring and recorder for prores & dxnhd but it doesn't do either :(

Anyone know if this will change soon? Firmware upgrade perhaps?

You can set Red One MX to output 1080p during Playback. If the Odyssey sees the 1080p playback then it'll prove it's the 720p live feed it doesn't support.

I think it's been confirmed that the Odyssey can't take 720p

I was about to buy 7Q for my Red One as well. This is quite unfortunate, I hope you find out the solution soon
