Here is some history of our new space:

The building was built between 1820 and 1840. At the time it were constructed, Grand Street was dirt and cobblestones. For the next 20 or so years after their birth, this 4 story structure was the tallest building for blocks. Today, 125 Grand and 127 Grand stand as the sole remaining example of the colonial style of architecture in this area. Also, as one of the original cast iron district buildings, the unique feature of the two perfect cast iron arches that had supported the structure are today clearly visible in the ground floor of the 125 building.

Around 1850, because of its prominence in the area, 125-127 Grand Street became one of the famous meeting places of the notorious 5 Points section of lower Manhattan. Christened “Grand Street Hall”, it was a renowned meeting hall and tavern, once with 1500 people in attendance. Its rich history, as documented in the newspapers of its day, includes tavern sword fights, conscription point of Civil War soldiers (1860s), a meeting hall for the first assembly of African-American waiters seeking wage increases in New York (1850s), meetings regarding the Irish riots in the Ninth Ward by The Ancient Order of Hibernians and The Friendly Club of Irish Confederates (1850s), union meetings (1850s-1900s), and even hosted Charles Fairbanks, the 26th Vice President of the United States (1908).

In 2007, a restoration began to remove the multiple layers of paint that had been applied to the façade over the decades. Incredibly, when the original red brick was restored, so too was a ghost image of the original painted banner “Grand Street Hall”. Analysis of the paint chips from that banner established the paint’s origin to be in the mid 1800s: Look carefully at the building just at the 2nd floor level, and the words “Grand Street Hall” can be discerned in black reverse outline, diaphanous on the brick: a proud building now dwarfed by the surrounding structures, but refusing to let its glorious past be forgotten.

Nice. Now I'd only have to take a quick train ride instead of a plane to check things out.

Looks great, nice location, so close to TriBeCa ;o) ... someone has a nice place during the festival now!

Another reason to say Congratulation today, perhaps ... something else ;o)

Great news! Lookng forward to swinging by. Thank you.

Damn, I was in NY a week ago for the first time in my life... and now this!

I must return

Can sensor upgrades happen in the NYC store? I assume not.

That's pretty fucking cool. Love historical buildings and your write-up makes it even cooler. Congrats.

We have a daily shuttle that sends the more hardcore stuff back to LA , so for upgrades you can just drop your camera off at the NY store and then pick it up at the NY store when it is done and not deal with shipping etc.

This is great news for us here in the Eastern side of Canada. Love going to New York!

That's impressive. Saves a lot in shipping and insurance costs.
