Hi gang,

just for us eager Redusers, what's the latest camera number that got upgraded? I reckon Ted mentioned to me at Paris Red day that they were in the 0-300 back then. I'm wondering what's the latest number now?

Would be cool if Red could post a sort of real time counter of the highest number on the website, like a lot requested when Red One was shipping...

For some reason, it'd be great for a lot of owners to "plan" the big bucks for the upgrade...

Remember that the upgrades don't necessarily happen in serial number order, so this is not a wholly accurate measure.

Lewis,

I was at RED about a week ago and they told me "if all goes as expected" My #801 would be in about a month. I took delivery as soon as it was available to me so that's where I would land. Of course, they gave me the disclaimer "subject to change .... blah blah blah"

Looking forward to MX though!

106 went in a few weeks ago, but they are clearly doing some catch-up right now. Give 'em some time to get really up to speed. Better to wait and have the turn-around be faster.

Yes and no, they do follow serial/shipping, but it's up to the owner to confirm and pay quickly... Like camera #350 could be upgraded after camera #400 if #400 paid and shipped his camera straight away and #350 waited a month to do so... (pretty much like how cameras were originally shipped)...

So I was told anyway...

The "latest number" idea is to know which camera is currently "offered" upgrading... Say, if someone receives his upgrade email and he's Red#620, you know you're not far away if you're #700...

Anyway, any Red crew welcome to correct my statement, and most welcome to tell us which camera numbers are currently being offered upgrade...

Another example of my previous statement, #106 went in, and #306 was posted "available with the new MX sensor" on Reduser yesterday...

It is a bit confusing because we are going by original ship date, which doesn't necessarily match serial number. We had many customers that reserved a place in line with their deposit that didn't pay right away when it was their turn... so their camera got shipped later than higher numbers. Additionally, we have had several customers send us their cameras for upgrade and then take some time to pay for the upgrade... which doesn't help the process. And then there have been issues along the way with various upgrade components... all in all not as smooth as we wanted, but the team is working tirelessly to get these done as fast as possible. Brian, Brent and Kelly are the unsung heroes here... without them, this upgrade would not have happened at all.

Thanks for poping in Jim, always classy...

I can only imagine the nightmare you guys are living, and how tough it is to be fair and organize a clever working system for this upgrade.

My concern is very mere as I'm just trying to get a ballpark idea of a schedule (mostly for my selfish self). I hope you understood that there's really no pressure or even less anger in my post, I'm just very eager and curious about where it's at and where I'm standing in line... :)

You guys have all my support and I hope things get smoother! (and I know the less we know the less you get in trouble :D)

And congrats on the 1st Oscar... Quite an achievement! I'm sure you never thought one day a movie shot with your camera would get an Oscar when you started the Red project...

Picking up RED MX 363 right now.. Ordered and paid January 30th, 2008.

Booking now..

Sorry- to clarify, we took delivery late Dec. of '07. We were eligible for upgrade starting 1/28. We were a few weeks delayed in sending to RED for M-X because of production schedule and it is still there. 107 is eligible but we have not had the time to send it in yet.

So Jim and gang, I gave it a little thinking and... Would you be okay to create a "sticky" thread in a pertinent section, something like "post your MX upgraded number here"... So people would have the freedom to a) boast, b) advertise, c) inform us about the ETA, or d) not post anything coz it's none of our business... ? A bit like "the delivery schedule and what you need to know... Maybe call it "the MX upgrade schedule and where it's at (more or less)... :D

This would avoid the eternal question (it comes in quite a lot) and would make people comprehend the number (dis)order system as they wouldn't all come in increasing stages order... And would let us have the satisfaction and excitement to see it coming.

What do you think?

So all this talk of ship dates and serial numbers in the low 100s that have been upgraded makes me wonder how it is that cameras shooting on a TV pilot in Atlanta are Mysterium X cameras with serial numbers in the 7000s. Can someone explain this to me? I don't see how any ship dates with serial numbers that high could have possibly gone out before my cameras in the 2000s. Call me confused.

Is there a priority to west coast rental houses perhaps?

No, you can upgrade when you currently buy a new RED. But it does seem a little unfair that you could buy a brand to RED right now and get an MX sensor and the rest of us have to wait.

I think the very first batch of emails sent out said you were allowed to send in additional cameras with later serial numbers. For example, a camera owner with one of the first cameras delivered who also has some much later cameras. This was before they knew how much of a demand there would be for the sensor upgrade.

We have had customers with both early serial numbers and late serial numbers trade positions with their serial numbers. If serial number 1xx was out on a long rental, we have allowed that position to be substituted for one of their other cameras. Then the 1st one has to go to the back of the line. We only have allowed that when our original customer owns both cameras...
