  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Mini Mag vs Red Mag

you would just need to make sure your ssd module for the scarlet-mx is the mini-mag type and not the 1.8" type (meaning there is not an adapter to convert from one to the other). Also suggested to upgrade to the latest firmware. Mini-mags are faster (mostly for Epic-Dragon-Weapon requirements) and larger capacities.

In order to use the Mini-Mags on the Scarlet-X, you need to change the Side SSD Module on the Scarlet-X from the original 1.8" version to the Mini-Mag version, as seen here - http://www.red.com/store/products/red-mini-mag-side-ssd-module

You also need the Mini-Mag Red Station mag reader to off-load your media with, as seen here - http://www.red.com/store/products/red-station-mini-mag

There are no adapters that allow you to use the different kinds of media together.

Also, unlike the Epic-X and Epic-Dragon camera's, there's no performance or image-quality increase when using the Mini-Mags with the Scarlet-X or Scarlet-Dragon camera's. When using Mini-Mags (256GB and higher capacity) with the Epic camera's you can use lower Redcode Compression settings than you can when using the 1.8" RedMags, but the Scarlet camera's are limited to using the same Redcode Compression settings whether you're using the original 1.8" RedMags or the Mini-mags. This is because the Mini-Mags can record data at a higher/faster rate than the 1.8" RedMags, but the Scarlet camera's don't generate data at that higher rate anyway, unlike the Epic camera's which can shoot at higher resolutions and frame-rates.

At the moment, the original 1.8" RedMags are only available in 48GB and 240GB capacities, while the Mini-Mags are available in 120GB, 240GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities.

All the DSMC[SUP]2 [/SUP]camera's (Raven, Scarlet-W, Weapon etc.) come with non-interchangeable Mini-Mag Side SSD modules and can only use the Mini-Mags, so if you're going to use any of those camera's in the future, it might make sense to also use the Mini-Mags on your Scarlet camera now. But if you're only going to be using the Scarlet-X or Scarlet-Dragon camera's and don't need the longer recording times that the 512Gb and 1TB Mini-Mags allow, then you may as well just use the 240GB 1.8" RedMags.
