im i the only one disappoint that RED didnt make the mattebox with rotating filter trays and more than 2 stages. the arri MB-20 has it and if im not mistaken redrock does also i guess i was really expecting red to always one up the competition. it does make a pretty good matte box for Steadicam use because it is a clip on and the price is ok at 1,300 after tax. am i the only one that feels this way. other than that the only problem i have with red is i dont have a Scarlet in my hands

Its just what it is. A decent quality & affordable lightweight, 2-stage, clip-on mattebox, which is big enough to fit the Red Pro primes. I don't believe it was ever designed to be a full-on replacement for more full-featured offerings from OConnor, Arri, etc.

There are more parts for the RED mattebox coming. There will be different stage options, rotating trays, rod mounts, etc.. It's all modular. For now, it just is what it is, as Paul says. It's a well-made, light-weight, clip-on that can fit the RPP's and other large lenses. If you need an MB-20 or a mattebox with those features, then go buy one of those. Some day, RED will have those options too, but don't get caught holding your breath waiting.

I think RED is on the right track here. Look at all the different mattebox offerings that Arri has. RED is taking a more modular approach and will be able to create most of the same configuration options via one base design and a highly configurable kit of accessories.

And yes, I own the RED mattebox. I have been quite pleased with it. I have the kit with the full cage and top, bottom and side flags. Works great in many situations. Yes, there are times I would really like a rotating stage. I know it's coming and for those times, I may just have to use a different mattebox.

i own a MB-20 and the RED PRO matte box. i use the red waaaaaay more the the arri but for now i dont have a solution for rotating filters when i use Steadicam bummer

Yeah, I'm thinking the OBox might have the best choice for this "in-between" space right now.

Have Arri's best MB, the Arri MB28, a fantastic MB, has it all 3 rotating stages, Swing Away module, large front Box for ultra wides, side wings, top and bottom flags... But, its still BIG AND HEAVY.

Red Pro Matte Box, its just Fantastic, clip it on, and go about it, now with the new cage system and both side wings and top and bottom flag, has turned in to a real Prom MB.

With Swing Away added, will a rotating stage make it better? Yes, will a 3 Stages make it better? Well, it depends, as it could become too heavy for a clip on, but a rotating Polarizer is always welcome, but a fixed one works fine too... ;)

Point is, to each its own, ARRI MB20 or 28, have its use as does a clip on.

Yet the pint it can become mute pretty fast with RED, as they are ever evolving their new toys in the most incredible Modular designs, so anything can happen, for now we enjoy the RED PRO MB a lot... ;)

The trays are less of an issue since when do you ever need rotating trays with a clip on? Bu if it could clip or mount 15 LWS with a 138mm rotating filter that would make me buy one in a second!

Sorry Ryan, you still do need a Rotating Polarizer if you are accustom to use one, however with a Clip on, you either use a Fixed Polarizer, or none, but you sure do not want to rotate the MB...
There is the Wide form factor to keep in mind here, as this is not a Square box, but a rectangular one, and will vignette like crazy if rotated the in Vertical, while the sensor is horizontal.

So a tool must be chosen to fit a need, as it is for everything else.
