Hi evryone.
Just a simple question... is it possible to use the RED MATTE BOX with 19mm rods?
I mean.. is it only a clip-on matte box?
In the picture i don't see the 19mm adaptor.
Thank you!

Not yet. I don't speak for RED but I believe it's coming soon.

Red has indicated that adding a rod adapter to the Red Mattebox is on their road-map. Mike could be right, but my guess is he's being optimistic in saying its coming soon. There are lots of MB options out there for full on rod-mounted rigs. Red has said as much.

Jarred mentioned that it's out in the wild being tested right now. I'd like one too - can't wait!

I believe that we can see Matt adjusting the rail-mounted RED mattebox at about 4:08 in the clip posted here: http://www.red.com/learn/product_demos/quick-release-system

Here's a still image - looks like all he does is release the two little clamps and the whole thing just slides away. Easy breezy, cover Matt.

Just a respectful bump as its awfully quiet out there. Still keen to purchase Rod support for Red Pro mattebox, more donuts and and extra tray. It must be close?

I been shooting on my red scarlet and have the Red Matte Box but it can only be used on some Canon lenses in a clip on mode. The problem is that it stresses the focus motors on the lens. I really need to attach this to a rod system. Any news or work arounds out their that don't involve duct tape or drilling new holes?

Dave,

Last word from Red was that the development of accessories for their Mattebox had taken a back seat to other priorities. With cameras and other accessories deliveries becoming under control hopefully Red will turn their attention back to finishing the Red Mattebox system.

I hope the time is coming soon, we are really waiting some good news!!!

Hey, kind of a side note here...but can anyone tell me the benefits of having 4x5.6'' filter trays as opposed to 4x4 filter trays, like many other matteboxes do? I know the aspect ratio of the RED ONE at 4.5k is 2.33:1, but can anyone tell me if having 4x4 filters will cause any loss of coverage with the filters? Probably a noob question, but I'm researching all sorts of matteboxes at the moment.

This is a very great news from you Jarred! I can't wait to fit it on my EPIC X!

Jarred,

Swing-away matte box mount (as seen in prototype form in the RDC video explaining the quick-release mount system) still in the pipeline?

Thanks for this, will make a good alternative until the swing-away is released.

Mike

Hmmm... the Universal Mount isn't Lightweight width (60mm) is it. Looks like more configuration changes than I hoped for. :-( Glad it's coming as an option, though.
