Hi!
I'm toying around a bit with fcp 7.0.1 and color and have encountered a problem.
If i send H_proxies or log and transfer redmaterial with the settings to "native" it gets unsharp in color. If I use log and transfer with the settings to "as shot", the material gets sharp in color, however, then I don't have the option to use the RED-tab inside of color.

b.t.w everything is sharp in fcp and the settings in color are set to high.

I tried redcine x, also unsharp with all settings maxed.

Any ideas?

Check the Color proxy settings as they set the demosaic decode quality.

Thanks.
If you mean Render proxy, Grading proxy and Playback proxy in Color Setup they are all set to full resolution and has always been.

Yup, those are the settings to check. Can you post images of what you're seeing, and you should also get your full name as your user name - in the meantime, stick it in your .sig.

Ok I'll post some pictures tommorrow. Thank you.

Ok, now I've made some screengrabs. The effect is really showing when the material is sent back to final cut.

pict 1 is ingested as shot in final cut via log and transfer (screengrab from Color)

pict 2 is is ingested native in final cut via log and transfer (screengrab from Color)

pict 3 is the same as nr 1 but sent back to fcp after rendering

pict 4 is the same as nr 2 but sent back to fcp after rendering

Hope this makes sense.

What do you guys here at the forum use for grading? H, M or L_proxies?
If log anf transfer what settings?:confused5:

To be honest, those all look pretty normal. It's been stated before that the RED tools (And, I'm assuming, the SDK which is the basis for the Color plugin) don't do much in the way of sharpening unless you explicitly tell it to, which you can't in Color. So things might not appear as 'sharp' in Color working natively.

Please don't confuse not-sharp with out-of-focus or anything. Personally, I prefer it that way, since it allows *me*, not some random algorithm, to determine how much sharpening I want applied. And I almost always do a sharpen pass before my final render.

I admit It's impossible to see in these small pictures (I thought they would be bigger) but the difference is significant. It's very easy to see when looking at the microphone at the right.
So if I understand this correctly if I send proxys or native footage to color there has been no sharpening in the process but if I make proress 444 in redalert/clipfinder or ingesting in log and transfer in "as-shot-mode" there is sharpening?
I will maybe try and do some sharpening then. What's the best software for this in your opinion?

B.t.w I totally agree about being allowed to apply the sharpening yourself but have never before felt the need.
