  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED makes me too overwhelmed...

At times, I have this feeling of being overwhelmed by RED. They make me feel like I can never give enough back to them in return for what they have done for me.

Call it silly. You can whine (no offense to the ones who are) that it is taking 3 months to ship a specific product. I'm gonna have to instead say thanks for bringing out a product to begin with, which pushed the industry in a much better direction in every category.

Since purchasing my EPIC-M in September 2011, there has been nothing but steady progress for me and my career.

Thanks to everyone at RED and the rest of the awesome community here on REDuser.

(Yes, this is a weird post which many will dislike and call out "ugh...just another fanboy". I'm okay with that...
 
In a sense, yes, RED has opened the door for you by making an amazing camera that is relatively affordable but certainly it's the road you have paved for yourself that is taking you places. The hard work, the attention to detail, the passion for filmmaking. Those are the things making it a happy marriage. Congrats on your success. You have earned it!
 
I know the solution: send them more money!

You could also buy drinks for everybody at NAB.
 
Man, I know what you mean Joseph. Everytime I fire the camera up I am so grateful to be capturing the digital equivilant to film.

Joseph - I share your sentiments. Sure our hard work has been instrumental but when you have a tool that inspires you it's something else.
 
Without our customers, we are nothing. We are here for you, not the other way around. Pretty simple.

Joseph, I remember when you and I were just a few young guns who caught sight of Red early on and realized what was going on. While I wasted years pursuing the wrong things, you got out there, did things, and made **** happen. You're the example I hope I can follow.

Of all people here, you're someone who has benefited from Red in the best way possible. You deserve to feel overwhelmed. I know I feel that way after waiting almost 4 years for a Scarlet only to have it next to me right now. I haven't even had the chance to shoot anything, and I feel that way. What are you supposed to feel?! You've done things and gone places almost anyone would be envious of. And you earned it all on your own merit.

Yep, Red has changed so many of our lives and given us opportunities to do what we always knew we could given the right tools. It's an amazing story!
 
I've had my Epic M for three weeks... got the first chance to shoot with it today, for actual "pay." The client was blown away... and we were recording for them on a Pix 240! They loved the color, and the clarity! Too bad they won't use the 5K files! I must say, the Epic made me look better than I am! I couldn't believe our "interview" shot... I only used TWO lights, and it looked like a million bucks! I'm so proud of myself for taking the plunge! I'm looking forward to what the future will bring!

I'm totally with you on this. Found out today my surgery is very close to my left optic nerve. It would be cruel and unusual punishment should I lose eyesight (eyes are connected). All should be fine but nevertheless the amazing pictures I take, I can't live without... Non-stop shooting until surgery in late May. Carry on and hope to meet you all at NAB.

Good luck, Paul! Hang in there -- listen to the doctors and take it easy. Nothing in work is worth more than your health.

Paul, I suffered severe optic nerve and fluid damage when I was 25 years old due to a racing accident. While not physically obvious, it's detectable upon scanning and of course, I see it. I thought my career of working even on just a computer was over. Anything with a background light source, flat color, movie screen, camera flash... you name it -- all brought both pain to my eyes, caused watering, and induced migraines. I couldn't even look at an email page, read a book, or scan a spreadsheet, let alone dial in a camera. Forget sunny days and clear blue skies or white ski slopes. Prognosis was permanent, life long damage. It was over a year before my body began to repair itself but it's amazing how the brain can rewire around such problems.

Just one year after, I was back to work full-time and have since gone on to be a celebrated designer and creator, having worked for many big name notables. The occasional camera flash still gets at least one eye acting up, but nothing like before. The problems are still there but your brain literally rewires to see around those things. Kind of how you can train a camera sensor to "see" around dust and imperfections.

Best of luck to you in your surgery and remember, even if the outlook is concerning right now, trust in your body to rebuild and repair. Fuel it right, treat it right, and it will return the favor.

Thank you so much for sharing. The moral support I have received on here and from team RED has been tremendous. I am only shooting RED now and if I need to put the camera away for re-wiring I will. I wound up in the hospital 4 times last year with migraines and once in China. Found out because of lack of energy, at least I found out pretty quick. Have varying side effects right now but manageable. Enjoying every day just in case anything happens during procedure which I am scheduling after Reducation. Again thanks for being so open with me, makes me feel not alone which something often felt right now, especially at night.
