The one thing I think is missing in the RED narrative is that RED is MADE IN U.S.A.

I know Jim has mentioned this at times, but RED still needs a slogan that drives this home...something like:

RED, "MADE IN HOLLYWOOD".

Because unlike Sony or Canon, that are faceless conglomerates, or the Alexa that is made abroad, RED is a small, homegrown camera company that American consumers can be proud of.

I believe young, aspiring film-makers may feel differently about RED once they understand how local this company is (aren't all the cameras assembled in Hollywood?)

Not to say great products aren't built abroad, they are. But it's also human nature to root for the home team (it's why the French love Airbus). In light of Jim's most recent post, and his acknowledgment of how many Red haters there are, I think this "truth" is a compelling and important part of the RED narrative...that is currently missing.

Just my 2 cents.

made in irvine
not quite the same as made in hollywood
but you are right and it would sound awesome....

Think the very first Epic M's were assembled in Hollywood.
But yeah...great logo for T-shirts and Hats.

Here is a photo I took at the RED Booth during NAB 2013. This Logo was proudly displayed on a wall of the "Clean Room" where the first batch RED Dragon sensors were literally being installed in Cameras on the show floor.

I'd love to see this on merch in the RED Store soon...

what's wrong with 'made in america?' or 'made in the usa?' or 'made in california?'

no offense, but i personally think 'made in hollywood' is a terrible marketing strategy, especially considering the demographics of redusers.

i'm unabashedly biased in how i feel about hollywood and the la movie-making scene. there's a huge smog cloud over the city. that's all i have to say.

oh, and long live the united states of america. at least, the one that exports incredible art, ideas, and experience. where is that, again?

Also given the high risk nature of the "Hollywood" product (hit and miss by it's very nature), I don't know if RED would want to attach its brand image (that's going to want to convey 'rock solid reliable') to it. :001_cool:

No offense to the Hollywood folks... I work in a hit and miss profession also (R&D - 20%'ish hit rate historically - even worse than Hollywood).

How about "the only cinema camera on the market built in the USA". Its not like Arri, BMC (if they even count), Canon, Sony, or anyone else makes stuff in the US. People should recognize that... Stop buying European, Asian, and Australian cameras, buy American...

I buy a shirt with that logo in a second.

On a recent trip to India I was asked by many photographers, usually Asians "What kind of camera is that?"
I would politely reply "Red".
This always resulted in a puzzled look.
I would say with a louder voice "It's American".
I loved doing that.

Disclaimer: Before people slam me for being racist, the vast majority of pro or pro looking photographers in India were Asians usually from China or Korea. I asked. Big photo backbacks, tripods, photo vests, etc. The point being most cameras are being made in Asia. But not my Red.

if RED start selling two version one at full price "Proudly made in the USA" and another made in India for 30% less. I'm pretty sure what most people will buy. My point is I don't really think people care if was made in japan, Germany, India or USA as long is a good camera.

It's not my home team. I don't have a home team. I guess Arri in Germany is the closest but you won't find too many brits cheering Germany on for anything...

I think it's a bit weird to be proud of where the tool you use comes from, but I appreciate American attitudes to patriotism are somewhat less, errr.. 'subdued' than European ones ;)

However, please don't start puttting flags all over the badge as per that NAB clean booth logo above. Not only is it pretty tacky, but it could get you in trouble shooting red in certain parts of the world.

Yes, we definitely need shirts/hats etc. with the Made in America logo!

Why? Why on Earth do you definitely need that?

Yeah down with those pesky Europeans and their astonishingly good cameras and lenses :cursing:
