Piranha has full support for R3D through RED's SDK, including complete Rocket support, if available. Piranha supported realtime, dynamic proxy levels, so you can tweak the proxy settings through a menu, to get the best combination of speed and quality, while working in Piranha, and can easily switch to "No Proxy" prior to rendering for the best quality possible. I'm excited to not only see the new, no-nonsense price for Piranha $995, but also for the Mac port, and no-time-limit evaluation version, that you can download without any contact forms, etc. Download it, try it as long as you like (given some restrictions on render resolution, watermarks, and project complexity), and either buy it or don't.
For me, personally, in my experience with Piranha, IFX, and Tom, has been their willingness to address issues in the software. In the past, if you needed the software to do something specific, a short conversation with Tom was usually all that was necessary. I'm sure with the new pricing, and the larger potential user-base, that may change somewhat, but I'm hopeful that a strong showing of support for key features from a broader audience will result in the same effect. Ultimately, its nice to know that there are only a handful of people between your ideas and the coders who implement them, unlike some of the larger companies where you might as well be bashing your skull against a wall, hoping someone is listening!
If you haven't already, and you still have questions about Piranha's ability to handle R3Ds... download it and find out. It's pretty dead-simple.
