Red Limiters?

Hello,

I am on my second day of shooting with a Red camera that appears to have some kind of hard limiter at -6dB... It is the third time that I shoot on RED and I have never had this issue. The camera has build 17 but the DIT/owner says he has the new Audio board on it. I am using the cables built by remote audio recommended by sound devices and not the cables sold by RED. I am sending my signal out out of the main output of a 744t and I am having to attenuate the output by -10 dB to get my 1KHz at -20 in the camera (second mark from left to right). If I try to overdrive the camera, it wont let me go past -6dB... I did some tests and looked/listened to the audio on sound booth and that's the reading I got. The limiter sounds very bad and makes the background noise floor "pump" drastically... Fortunately I'm recording to my 744t, but production would like to use the camera sound mainly and only use the 744t recording as back-up in case there is a need for iso tracks.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to turn off these limiters? Any insight would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!
Pablo

Are you certain that the camera is limiting and it is not the 744T limiting output at +4?

EDIT: put another way, I'm 99% certain there is no limiter hardware in the RED ONE.

If you're using sound cables built to work with the old audio board, they will have attenuator pads built in. These won't work well with the new audio board.
