on a shoot with two RED cameras. We cant figure out how to make the RED LCD or the RED viewfinder and make the HD out ports on the side of the camera work so we can send video out to village. Is this a firmware deal and will be fixed or a setting in the camera we missed.

Also when we attach an HD monitor instead of the RED LCD we do not see the full display in the monitor. it cuts right below where it should display the shutter, ASA information.

Lastly when were shooting the free fun time code is not displayed in real time, it slows and then catches its self back up. Any fixes to with problem yet.

Thanks so much. Having alot of fun with the RED.

In the Toronto tests this was resolved by replacing the RED LCD with Panny LCD that had HD-SDI I/O. This meant the signal could be routed out the side of the camera, through the first monitor and on to the second monitor.

What kind of monitor is needed for HDMI?

I tried a HDMI to HDMI connection to a HD LCD and it says "not supported"

I used a 25' HDMI to DVI connection to a Dell 24". I forget what model Haakon's monitor was, but it worked as well, with the same connection.

I'll try out an HDMI to HDMI right now.

I just tried an HDMI to DVI cable on 3 monitors and the last one works perfect...Dell 20" (Ultrasharp 2005FPW).

When HDMI is selected (in camera settings) you get the entire screen including the bottom menus, but PREVIEW output does not work.

When PREVIEW is selected both outputs are active, but you do not see the bottom menus on either monitor.

A couple other notes:
1. If you have CAMERA LCD selected, you can push the top right button on the LCD and toggle between LCD and HDMI and both have the full menu displayed. Its one or the other not both.

2. If you have PREVIEW selected, you can also toggle between PREVIEW and LCD with the same button. The LCD will display the bottom menus but not the PREVIEW monitor.

3. PREVIEW never displays the bottom menus even when the only monitor connected.

It's very handy to see everything showing up on the external monitors, with the exception for False Color. Can't wait to have that on the external as well.

we are using 1.3.6 and 1.3.5. Also be careful when plugging in any AUX cables to the battery plate. We have two 8.4' Panasonic monitors go down as well as a down converter that is now sketchy. Were going to have to use out own batteries for the monitors.

Known bug which RED is working on which may have affected you when plugging items into the Anton style "D" tap on the battery plate:

a properly machined "D" tap has 2 mitered corners to prevent crossing polarity by accident, the connector on the RED battery plate has too much clearance and will allow you to reverse polarity - I burned up a Marshall monitor this way, literally had smoke coming out of it. I have plugged accessories into the Anton Bauer gold plate on my D-30 hundreds of times without incident because it won't allow you to do it backwards so I was not paying close attention. Lesson learned, lesson passed on...

IMO the battery plate needs to be recalled and should be done so with the PL mount modification.

That such an important part of the camera is all plastic and I have never seen a battery with that amount of movement on a V-lock plate before. Haven't been caught out by the AB tap but one that allows the incorrect insert of the AB plug is wrong with the consequence of expensive gear going up in smoke needs to be put right.

Red, if it's a matter of cost I am happy to pay more for a quality replacement.

One of the things i HATE HATE HATE the most about my xl-1 is the crappy battery connection. it falls out, cuts out, is flimsy.. gahh...

power supply needs to be 125% reliable.

Agreed---A notice should be sent to all owners IMMEDIATELY...If I fried a monitor I would not be a happy camper. I guess I have been lucky.

BTW- Red should also offer a AB plate as an option, being restricted to Red batteries is not a good idea, and the v-plate to ab plate is a pos.
