" First day out with my new Komodo, and first time in years filming in the snow. The amount of detail this camera hold in the highlights is incredible, and the global shutter adds so much confidence when shooting handheld. I wanted to try to push the camera to see where the limits are, and I have to say I'm incredibly impressed with just how much it was able to withstand. A couple of the shots ended up being ISO 80 in post but still held up, I had initially gone out just to test, trying to push the camera past it's limits, I really wasn't expecting to have enough footage to really edit anything together, but so much of it was usable that I wanted to upload at least a short video.

I shot everything with just the Komodo, Contax Zeiss 35mm f1.4 (some ND, NISI NanoIR), two Swit BP975s, a strap to hold the camera, and the Tilta Cage and handle. Just shot off the tiny screen on the top, which worked better than expected!"


Shot in 6k R3D LQ, colored in Resolve
200-500 ISO in post for most shots
Exported as 6k h.265 10bit

Lars,

It's the resulting anamorphic resolution from the Sirui 1.33X anamorphic lens used on the Komodo he is referring to.

For example from Phil Hollands Phfx.com website, here is a 2X anamorphic lens used on a Monstro in 8k resolution in 6:5 mode. The resulting de- squeezed image is 10368 x 4320 in a 2.40:1 aspect ratio.

It's still upscaling. You don't get more resolution after de-squeeze, you just stretch the pixels and there's no 4:3 sensor in any Red camera except Gemini that enables more vertical resolution before desqueeze, but even then, it's always an upscale.
