In Darkness, a true-life Holocaust drama from director Agnieszka Holland has won top honors at Poland's Plus Camerimage festival, the world's leading festival focusing on the art of cinematography.
Congratulations Jolanta Dylewska and the entire team behind In Darkness. Congratulations team Red for disrupting the status quo.

Notes from Jolanta Dylewska on shooting In Darkness
As the director of photography, the "actors" I use to tell a story are light, color,
perspective and motion. I knew from the very beginning that in In Darkness, the light
had to be the main protagonist. I set my sight on the following three tasks:
• To make the ‘Darkness’ a metaphor of the Jewish lot during the Holocaust.
• To create the dramaturgy of lighting by which the spectator will be “touched” by the
darkness; he will experience the protagonists' feelings as if he was there with them.
• The main hero, Leopold Socha, a Catholic who voluntarily decides to bear
responsibility for Jewish lives, had to be lit differently from the rest of characters. As
if the light was always with him; even in the ‘Darkness’

From an earlier post:

Thus begins Red's journey with art house favorites. Congratulations Jolanta Dylewska, Lech Majewski and Adam Sikora.

Don't know about "Rose" (Róza), but from what I know and has been told to me by a friend (so I'm not claiming this is first-hand, bullet-proof info), of the 15 movies in the main competition 3 have been shot on RED, 1 on Alexa, and 11 on film (mostly Fujifilm stocks).

Lars Von Trier's Melancholia was shot on Alexa by Manuel Alberto Claro. Lars Von Trier had previously shot Anti Christ with Red and Phantom camera.
Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life was principally shot on 35mm with a host of other cameras including Red. The Mill and The Cross proves that resolution matters while In Darkness is a tribute to the cameras form factor and low light capabilities amongst other things.

It's nothing like I have seen before. Absolutely groundbreaking. Lars Von Trier's Dogville comes to mind but for very different reasons. A must watch.

Amazing!!! the movie looks exactly like a Pieter Bruegel painting.

The Mill and the Cross is a 2011 drama film directed by Lech Majewski and starring Rutger Hauer, Charlotte Rampling and Michael York. It is inspired by Pieter Bruegel the Elder's 1564 painting The Way to Calvary, and based on Michael Francis Gibson's book The Mill and the Cross. The film was a Polish-Swedish co-production. Filming on the project wrapped in August 2009. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 23, 2011.
