  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red/ iPod Movie Slate and the future of this technology

Just one simple answer...

Just one simple answer...

We have an FAQ on our website that lists some possible connection chains along with TRRS connectors with built-in attenuators that bring the signal down to mic level:

http://www.pureblendsoftware.com/FAQs/10178/3/27/

I hope this helps answer questions about the cabling, at least on MovieSlate's end.

The only answer we need is WHICH one of the three outputs is used by Red One to send the LTC signal: Genlock DIN-BNC, Audio Out mini XLR, or Timecode LEMO? If we know this answer, then we can buy the cable(s) with the right connectors per your site... :willy_nilly:

The web site you provide does not specify the needed information about the Red One. :mad2:

Luis,

Why would movieslate guy know anything about the Red One? He already told you what you need from HIS end.. You need to go in the headphone jack at MIC level. How you get there from RED is a question for RED..

Don't you agree.?

Good to have you on here movie slate guy

Jay,

I never expected anyone from his company to chime in. I expect Red or someone else from this forum that has the answer to do it. I was just clarifying to him what is piece of information needed since he decided to enter on the discussion of this subject by replying to the question. However, he answered the incorrect one, or repeated something we already know via purchasing his product.

However, it is in his company's best interest to have that information available. More customers on this forum will be more inclined to buy their product if the have the appropriate information. That is a simple business strategy in my book... Don 't you think?

LTC comes out of the 5 pin time-code Lemo on the Red One.

The clues are in the names! LTC stands for Linear Time Code, so the time-code Lemo is the place to look for it! Audio comes out of the audio XLR, and the genlock connector is is a genlock input for tri-level sync.

The 5 pin time-code Lemo has both input and output of time-code on the one connector. The pin-out is on p120 of the Red manual.

Like the SI2k? I hadn't heard that. Very cool. Hopefully you could just hand Scripty a red-mote and let them fill out the slate numbers.

Very very cool.

CJ, you've lost your mind!! Hand scripty a Redmote?!?! Hahahaha. Ill agree to that if all other buttons and options can be locked out on that Redmote!

Nick,

Tanks for your enthusiastic and enlightning response !!!! For one, TLC was a new acronym, so I was not able to make the connection, but now that you explain it, it does make sense. :hurray:

And also thanks to Dabling for providing the video!

Now we know what will be needed to buy and where too (it is on the links provided by the Apps Help).

Cheers,

Maybe I'm a little dim tonight, but we need to get a trrs to lemo? Where on earth might we find that?

Thanks, Dabling...!

Thanks, Dabling...!

Dabling,

I just wanted to give you form all of us a big thanks for your effort and passion to share this video in an effort to receive the appropriate answer, and enable everyone that desires to use the Apps to indeed use it as a real tool.

The director of the next movie we are shooting starting next Monday loves it, and was joking that we will use it, and at the end of the shooting he will take it home in LA as a trophy. Well, I just added it to the quote... :ack2:

Cheers!

If you go to the App, enter to the help section. It gives you several links. One of them provides you with the place you can order on-line the cable.

Thanks everyone forngoing above and beyond. Hower - I'm still confused. To be fair I've been without coffee for some time, but all I see are XLR and Rca cables on that page. Lemo not mentioned.

Luis,

We're not out of the water yet. I put the video up so RED users could verify if indeed the Lemo LTC port will output a smpte signal like the one we heard coming out of the iPhone. If indeed it does then you're all good. Someone on this board should be able to verify this very easily.

I'm waiting on my Scarlett so I don't have a R1 to play with to be sure. I'll bet someone has transmitted timecode from RED to a wireless transmitter and if that's the case, it should work just fine.

I would think that one of these plus one of these should do the job.

Dabling,

The Nagra has also the capability to send the jamsync signal, so that is another avenue we are exploring. The App can send and receive, so if used as a receiving devise, and the LEMO TC also is receiving the signal, the Nagra can provide the signal to have the triangle completed (Nagra, Red, iPhad/iPhone).

Revisiting this long dead thread - has anyone come up with the proper synch cable for the Movie Slate iPad app and a Scarlet/Epic?

So to push that a little bit,

I synced the App to Epic & Scarlet using the following plans:

https://discussions.apple.com/message/5262651?messageID=5262651#5262651?messageID=5262651 (iPad plug & pins)
http://denecke.com/Support/Downloads/Documents/Smart Device Input & Output Cables Schematic.pdf (wire plan)

Cables are done by myself. I jammed to an external clock unsing FreeRun in one test in another one TOD+fps
In both tests our cameras stayed in sync, but iPad drifted away after Minutes, so not really useful.

The App support team told, thats not normal and it should stay longer in sync. I´m still in contac and keeping u up to date.
