As some of you are aware, we've been working on the one of the first indie features ever shot on RED aptly named 'The Red Canvas' ... it's a mixed martial arts movie starring black-belt superhero Ernie Reyes Jr (also one of the stuntmen in Indiana Jones 4) and has some pretty amazing fight footage combining RED with high speed Phantom shots ... the graded .r3ds and film-out look super cool. Ted showed parts of the 4k trailer at NAB.
Anyway, it transpires that the Director, Ken Chamitoff has a brother Greg, who just happens to be an astronaut (I kid you not) and was actually on the NASA flight on Saturday May 30th going up to the International Space Station on Mission STA-124:

Greg is going to spend six months in space and will miss the world premiere of his brother's movie to be shown at the Martial Arts SuperShow in Orlando in July .... so NASA is going to beam a special version of the 'The Red Canvas' up to Greg so he can watch it while circling the Earth ... cool or what!
This is Greg's NASA biography:

The 'Red Canvas' also stars George Takae as the "baddy" .... Executive Producer, Les Connard sent me an email saying that NASA ..."have made arrangements to have our film uploaded to the space station. The First Intergalactic premier will be our movie, the astronauts will be our first viewing audience, because they will see it before the Super Show attendees in Orlando on July 11th! George Takae's, (SULU from Star Trek) film is the first to have its premier Intergalactically, isn't that appropriate?"
So, not only will the world premiere of 'The Red Canvas' take place out in space, but George Takae could be the first ex-Trekkie to star in a fight movie shot on RED and screened in space ... what was it that Captain Kirk used to say? ... "Beat me up, Scottie?" ... or was it "Beam me up, Scottie" ..... either way, you can check out the latest 'Red Canvas' trailer here:

Will keep you posted on the further adventures of .... RED in Space.
