This is moderately self-promoting (although I don't sell Avid or anything) and I've already posted a link in the Avid workflow forum, but...
Avid Media Composer 5.0 ships in a few days and now integrates native RED RAW support with the AMA features, it's fast, easy and powerful.
I've posted a long and rambling review of Media Composer 5 which goes into a lot of the things that have changed in this version.
And, I've posted a brief summary of RED workflow in Media Composer 5 (including a video demo of the process of linking to a folder of .R3D media). The video is just over a minute long - it take 12 seconds to index and link to the 93 clips containing 46 minutes of footage, then they are editable. There is full RAW control right from the bin.
I cut on Media Composer every day, so I'm certainly an Avid fan, but it's definitely fair to say this stuff is a pretty massive leap forward for Avid. The only question left for me is about the workflow from Avid to other apps is with this method, but it should be pretty solid.
On my underpowered laptop (a Compaq with Dual-Celeron 1.6GHz and 4GB RAM) I actually get stable playable video from 2K source files - so it's very workable.
