Red in Hong Kong

I have saw Dan's RED today in Hong Kong, great as a start, impressed with the 8G CF card. Still awaiting my 2REDs delievry, payment made, has change some config, Nikon mounts and EVF are not able to deliver as scheduled.

Look forward to see NAB annoucement, perhaps will commit to some Scralets.

I wish Dan could start a Hong Kong User Group??

In the test with 13XX
I have an observation with various lens
Quality different between my Standard set of Arri PL lens and REDs lens do have a difference, would like to see how other have observed.

I felt the RED Zoom's movement is not smooth enough to act for a Cine type operation.

The Historogram is fantastic, very helpful.
The LCD is too directional in viewing, bad for 2 person's viewing. Like if DP is sharing te same monitor with the focus puller
Perhaps some of you could share with me some of the ideas to handle this.

Dan saw more exciting lens on my RED 768 On Friday before he sees his RED + RED Lens. Hehe....Dan.

REDHKSC can help on anyone who believe they have the talent to create WOW Factor Digitainment content in HKG/CHINA/Thailand.

No More 35mm please, the Film Projector should be installed in the Museum for display only.

Let's all 4K Cameras indie D-Filmakers/Digitainment Makers to create more WOW Digitianment content from 4K to anything.

4K Camera is cheap and anyone can afford to own it, and why not buy one to start your own 4K production from shooting 1st then meet more post houses to test their ability to meet your expectation.

Good for you to do some 3D tests with two REDs, I hope the final delivery will not be HD1080P right ? You got the Barco 2K can support 444 right ?

Centro made a TDC 3D trailer but only in HD ( Sony HDCAM ) and I hope you can do better than them in formatwise.

Digital Cinema can not give wow imaging factors in HD !!!! To me at least
2K 444 or even 4K with less panning shots.

Hi all Red users and owners and shooters,

I will act as a host at REDHKSC.org to do interviews with all RED one owners or users or shootings etc. in HKG this month to review our recent tests from Mid march up to now from early Build 15 to recent v.2.2.5.

v.2.2.5 was crash on my RED twice when I panning a bit too fast settings were normal from my 2years+ learning and sharing with all RED users in the world.

I welcome to all RED one buddies to come to HKG to join our interviews and REAL RED one making of our testings in HKG.

I will provide TV Studio and PL lenses + RED one S/N 768 + Scratch
primary and secondary color grading systems + CP-200 Tangen Control panels and our Fast Raid 5 Storage and 46" Dual Link HDSDI 444 Professional LCD monitor for all of us to co-learn more about the RED One Camera from Capture to display.

I have been talking to quite a lot of students ( Almost two years time )
in HKG about " 4K to anything " Digital Film makings is REAL.

It is so sad and it's a shame that

our HKG Film or TV Schools ( HKAPA / Baptist U / IVE-Kwun Tong or others ) have no RED Digital Cinema Cameras for their students to learn new revolutionary shooting tools not for even now or future.

IAFT GOES RED

Cebu, PHILIPPINES (May 19, 2008) - RED Digital Cinema Inc. has delivered the first of a total of five RED Cameras to the International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT), Asia's Premier Film School, making it the first film school in Asia to incorporate the vastly publicized new generation of cameras.

1st HKG based Stereoscopic 3D to CHINA from Centro Digital Pictures in Shenzhen - May

1st HKG based Stereoscopic 3D to CHINA from Centro Digital Pictures in Shenzhen - May

Dear HKG people,

As I am a local HK guy and may I humble to say that :

Centro Digital Pictures ( http://www.centro.com.hk/ ) made the 1st Stereoscopic 3D D-films for Hong Kong - TDC ( Trade Development Council ) to promote Hong Kong is a Creative Hub in ASIA for fast developing CHINA in Shenzhen for its major trade show in May 2008.

Centro used two units of HDCAM with their Quantel 's Pablo HD/2K grading system + Stereoscopic 3D tools to finish the 1st HKG made 3D HK project to promote HKG with the great support from TDC of HKSAR Government.

I was so pround to supply my 2 HD camera ( Before RED cameras arrived in HKG since January 2008 ) be involved in the early testings with their entire 3D workflow from capture for an " REAL TIME Uncompressed 2 HD streams to be projected onto two Dual link HD Projectors with 60P /s for their 20 foot 3-D Screen @Cyberport - HKG back in January early this year.

My Best .-

Hi Nigel,

I would like to attend the 3D gig there.

Stop and quench your thirst at the 200sqm Quantel Bar. Meet colleagues and friends at this ideal meeting point.

Stop Press - Quantel brings Stereoscopic 3D to Earls Court: Stereoscopic 3D is a hot topic, probably the biggest topic in film and broadcast right now. It will likely cause as big a change in our industry as the introduction of color or sound. That’s great news for us all, as professionals and also as consumers
Stereoscopic 3D is not only about the movies; it can put the viewer right in the middle of sports action - or your client's commercial. In fact many analysts believe the business will take off even faster with TV than film.
No amount of description can convey the impact of the new generation of stereoscopic 3D, you just have to see it for yourself at Quantel’s exclusive event at Broadcast LIVE & VideoForum 2008 on 30th & 30th January 2008.

Don't get me wrong that UHDTV is 7680x4320 pixels (16 times the total number of pixels of an HDTV), and I was in Japan 5+ years ago to attend the STRL for their UHDTV camera ) Co-developed by NHK's STRL and Ikegami.

Check this out at http://www.nhk.or.jp/strl/publica/bt/en/tr0032.pdf if yopu did not knbow about the UHDTV history.

Again, I have to confrim that RED one is not a UHDTV Camera specification though.

Please correct me If I am wrong.

My friend Peter Wilson from UK who was just at the NHK Open house in Tokyo for a week supporting the BBC who have signed a collaborative document with NHK to develop Super Hi-vision technology.

NHK expressed very positive support for the Dirac Open Technology Codec which had compressed an 8K x 4K @ 60 Fps showreel into 128 Mbps. This was demonstrated using an Astro design Downconverter and 4K x 2K LCD display. NHK will now jointly develop Dirac with the BBC for the super Hi-Vision system.

Information on the Dirac Open Technology Codec is available on http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/index.shtml

Best Regards,

Peter

I know your Film recorder is ARRI and why not you shot ARRIRAW files over Dual Link to your DVS Clipster from ARRI uncompressed 2.8K image file to output 35mm Film though !!!

I believed you graded RED footage not in .R3D domain but DPS 2K files.

May I asking the fact and your points in doing this ? You got the gears but you' re not using them RIGHT .
