  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Import Duty

Good stuff Antony.

Remember to ITEMISE the accessories one by one... and beside each put the taric code that is 0%.

An overworked Fedex guy will look down the list... see all the 0% ones vastly outvoting anything else... and apply 0% to the lot.

:)

Thanks Antony, you absolute star!

Michael, how do I get fedex to see these EU/UK numbers if Red fill in all the documentation at their end and with american numbers?

I've not ordered something this complicated from overseas before so please excuse my noobness.

cheers

Oh don't worry about that. When the gear shows up in the UK (probably at their depot at Gatwick), they'll give you a call to talk about paying for the VAT and import tax.

It's at this stage that you say "WHAT??? £4000 of import tax? I don't think so me ol' mucker!" and the conversation goes on from there.

Gents, I only just spotted this thread, so excuse the late response;
RED Europe at Pinewood sells the full range of RED products, including the RED One camera body. There is no restriction however to stop you ordering direct from RED.com, and there is no automatic mechanism which re-directs any orders placed on-line. We do not force you to buy from one point-of-sale or another. That is totally up to you, the customer.
RED Europe UK prices are in Sterling and include freight, insurance and Import Duty into the UK (EU). The Harmonised Tariff Codes in use in the EU differ from those in use within the US and are open to some interpretation.
After extensive consultation and agreement with HMRC in the UK, the R1 camera body is coded as 8525.8091.00 and attracts an import duty of 4.9%, which must be applied to the inclusive value of the product, plus freight and insurance. Different products carry different codes of course.
If you are importing the product yourself, and manage to get a zero % import duty applied, please remember that HMRC (and Customs in other EU countries) have the right to impose retrospective taxation if they decide....

As to Pinewood being up to full service ability; we are close. Not just yet, but close.

Damn, that that's unfortunate. I assume you did try to get a 0% rating?

That's really good news! Please post when you're there.

Will DSMC cameras be 0% as they are half a digital stills camera?!

Just to add a bit more confusion to the debate, Red emailed me and said that the Red One shipment will be described as a "Video Digital Still Camera" on the shipment documents.

This is like an episode of 'SOAP'. :D

Hey Alan,

Will Pinewood be able to do the Epic trade ins?
It'd be nice to be able to send our R1 body to Pinewood rather than to the US.

Thanks,

Ed.

Here's a question that I'm sure someone knows the answer to. When our Red One arrives from the US the value of our order on the shipment will be just under $40,000. Obviously to work out the duty and VAT payable that amount has to be converted in to GBP, so what exchange rate do they use?

The rate on the day they do the paperwork
