Initially Her Majesty's Custom and Excise say the Red Camera would have a tariff number of 85258011 (TARIC code 8525803000)

But this code is for 3 chip ccd cameras.

Now it seems they are struggling to put RED into the single chip industrial or domestic camera tarrif. Apart from Genesis there is no pro single chip camera made outside of EEC.

They have said to one RED purchaser that a temporary duty of 55% will apply until a ruling is made.

Of course phone them on a Friday and they will say something different.
What categorey is RED being put into in other countries?

Being under the North American Free Trade Zone I can declare that attaching the "Titanium R" is part of the manufacturing final assembly process. Which of course we are proud to be a part of since it creates jobs here etc etc. Thus the import is "exempt" from duty/tariffs/taxes.

These are the codes used in Canada - do you have a link to the UK tariffs?

TV cameras come under: 8525.80.30 - free
Lenses come under: 9002.11.10 - free

when i described it to them they told me the duty would be 6%, i cant remember what code they gave me. plus the VAT at 17.5% of course.

That seems to be the figure being quoted for the time being.

I have still not got a difinite answer as to whether overseas customers (uk for example) will still have to pay the american sales tax as well as import duty and VAT?

Does anyone know for certain. Me thinks we do have to pay this!

no you only pay the US sales tax if you purchase the RED in the state its being sold in. So if you lived in CA then you would pay the CA sales tax.

UK purchaser would only pay the import duty and the VAT.

Anyone know the UK commodity code for import?

I'm no customs expert, but if you read the tarrifs yourself, there's not much else RED could come under.

can i take purchase of my camera in Tijuana? (no sales tax) haha.. thats what i did with my boat (ensenada)

we can set up a huge gathering/red boot camp down in mexico.. we can take delivery tax free and have our boot camp at the same time

Free of duty would be sweet. Duty makes a HUGE difference to the price! :help:

Rory is correct. I have ordered several items from B&H in New York; no US sales tax is applied.

There is no VAT in Jersey, and according to the customs office, it should be duty free. Lucky me.

The boot camp has been moved to Jersey:biggrin:

Yeah looks like you'll be the recipient of a number of RedOne cameras Moir, lol.

Here's a link to finding the Taric Code which should identify the camera for import to anywhere in Europe.

For me it really ought to come under the following if not the OP's code, I've heard others reckon it was a different code but it doesn't make sense to call the camera a video camera even if the image is attained digitally. The title states it is a Digital Cinema Camera, I'd feel entirely justified including it in the below category personally, whether customs agrees is another matter:

9007190000 = Import - Third country duty: 3.70 %

9007 Cinematographic cameras and projectors, whether or not incorporating sound recording or reproducing apparatus
- 9007 11 Cameras
- - 9007 19 Other

Here is a link to the above details as per the website

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/general/publications/tariff2007/01-99/tblmod-1-e.html

is the link for Canada.

9007.11 - -For film of less than 16 mm width or for double-8 mm film
9007.11.1000- - -To be employed in the commercial production of video tape productions,
cinematographic films (motion picture films), animated films or multi-image
shows - FREE, so I think 9007 is for film cameras, and that's not RED.

Here is the code I get for France 9007190000
9007110000 is for cinema equipment using film under 16mm width.

is this something that Red will sort out when they ship? I assume the customs declaration will have to be filled out at Red's end, so I guess we're not going to know for sure until the shipping date.

If it is 55% I think I'll be finding another way to collect my Red camera :-)

I rang Australian Customs, and they told me there's no Import duty here (because we don't manufacture cameras in Australia.) We will be charged 10% GST on any camera that we import - those who are GST registered get that money back.

Chris, I'm Aussie, but I live in the UK... I'd love to cruise back for a week, see the family, have my camera and accessories sent there, pay my 10% GST and then cruise back to europe... I wonder what the authorities would think of that... at least I would have paid tax somewhere... which is more legit than going to california then smuggling it out of America.....or is it?

How big are the problems you get by taking delivery in another territory? Is it just the VAT man?

Will an insurance company insure assets that had been brought into a territory without import duty being paid?
