  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED high lights blow out myth busted.

when

when

...when they're stoned.

If the musician is on the same drug when he made the music then it would make sense that the audience on the same drug would like it because it had disrupted the same parts of both their brains.

I wonder if people on Prozac like certain kinds of movies, or people on Oxycodone?

I meet someone with a "card" that likes to watch "I Love Lucy".

In a movie theatre you are sitting back so that the width of the monitor is 1/2 to 1/3 the distance you are to it. If you sit too close to your monitor you need to be back more to judge the sharpness. If you look at a 4K image 1:1 on a 2K monitor, you will need to be back 6 to 9 feet to see it like it will be in the theatre.

SMPTE standards reference viewing distances to image height so aspect ratio does not enter into the equation. Minimum recommended viewing distance for standard theater formats is 2x image height, mid-house sweet spot is 3-4x image height and maximum recommended distance is 6x image height. Get into something like a real IMAX theater and you are never over 3x image height away.

Truly looks great.

Looking at the helicopter shots, I think his shutter speed must be around 1/1000.

So I guess that would be an angle around 8 or 9 degrees.

Hi Anthony,
The 4k 25 fps shots had a shuter speed of 100th of a second.
the 2k 120 fps shots had a shutter speed of 400th.

thanks

Looks great!

Re: the earlier sharpening comment, I feel exactly the opposite. On a huge majority of the stuff I've shot on RED, we almost always have to sharpen in post.

The beauty of the RED is that they haven't pre-sharpened anything for us, but everything that you're seeing off your DSLR is sharpened in some way. To get the image looking right, it generally needs a little hit of the sharp stuff.

How are most of you guys sharpening. Using Redcine x or other post applications.

wow. awesome work!

i work as a DIT and digital colorist and i've always had problems dealing with hot whites when shooting/grading on the RED. i'd love to pick your brain to find out how you managed to preserve all that detail in the snow!

Hey Mark,

Simply breathtaking shots and stunning audio too.

Couple of questions for you :

How was the commercial shot? Shoulder, Steadicam, handheld? It all looks very smooth, with just enough 'bounce' in it for effect.

Was the music custom written and if so, who by? Could do with their contact details?

Well done on a great job mate!
