I connected the HDMI output of Red to a DVI cable through a HDMI/DVI adapter. I ran the DVI cable to a DVO scaler and connected the DVI cable through another DVI to HDMI adapter. To my surprise, there was the Red picture in 1080p (the DVDO box converted the signal). There are some low priced scalers on the market that also may work. An interesting experiment that worked!

Thanks Arthur. Just to clarify though, what you were seeing was the Red 720p picture resampled up through the scaler to 1080p right?

Anyone know when/if the HDMI output will support 1080p?

Let me know,

Yes, the 720p HDMI picture out of Red was upscaled to 1080p though the DVDO box and feed into the 1080p HDTV. The picture looks great and the menu is also displayed. Hope this helps! Art

Art, was it the 720p signal or 1280x848? Either way, nice to know... I was wondering if the DVDO scaler would handle it. I'm also curious if the scalers from Key Digital will digest RED's HDMI output. I can say that the Gefen HDMI scalers, converters and baluns do not like it.

shooter, we won't be seeing 1080p out of the RED HDMI port until the camera records 1080p in some native fashion. This may come with a separate firmware build for "video" use... It's been mentioned as a possibility, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

Jeff, I believe the picture being scaled is 1280x848. I also tried connecting the HDMI cable from Red to the HDTV HDMI input - no picture. I then tried going through the DVDO box with a HDMI cable out of Red and again no picture. Only the DVI cable would allow the signal to pass. Hope this helps.

going the other way??

Just had an email from a sales rep pointing to this (as yet unreleased product) from Gefen:

http://www.gefen.com/gefentv/gtvproduct.jsp?prod_id=5280

basically because I am interested in a low cost scale down so I can use all my older SD monitoring equipment in the field. Specs say it will scale signals from any HDMI resolution so I'm thinking it should work with RED.

Interesting that Jeff notes that other Gefen scalers don't like the RED HDMI signal. Just wondering if this new product will fix that issue (theoretically) ?

Any info much appreciated.

PS - Not interested in the audio - just video monitoring
