  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED has been defined...

Jannard, Take your post and create two print ads, one for American Cinematographer and one for DGA Quarterly!

Preaching to the choir. Trust me, their readers know what these movies were shot on.

Not only do the readers of trade-like publications know about Epic, but so does the public.

I was shooting some BTS for auditions recently in the lobby of a motel where their conference room was being used. A group of back pack carrying customers were checking in and one of them spotted me. Came right up and interrupted a conversation between me and one of the producers to excitedly ask about my camera. Without realizing I was doing so, I immediately ignored the Producer and began talking camera with the back-packer. That's what I call interactive advertising.

Personally I've been waiting several months for a fix so my Epic will work correctly.

Shameless plug here> Just wrapped shooting on my short personal short film "The Hardest Six," shot on 2 Scarlets and Red One MX. I was going to use some others cameras for B / C cams but I couldn't bring myself to do it. So 4K all the way.

Here's a little behind the scenes video we just finished showing the different cameras in action.

How prominent are RED cameras on commercial sets...on TV episodic, documentary? Feature films are impressive, but its not a trickle down. They are different beasts that need to be respected as such.

Would love to see some time and love given to the best of the small screen with regard to acknowledgement and dedicated workflow.
Diplomatically I think it would help.

Takashi Miike's Death Of A Samurai is playing right now at this very moment on our screen for some film critics. Miike is deep in the studio system in Japan and could probably get Sony etc. to custom build him a camera system if he wanted, instead his first 3D feature was shot on RED One.

/if only I could get a couple more foot-lamberts out of our Barco...

Two things I did recently on my Scarlet:

USPS Commercial:

Music video for blues artist Melvin Taylor:

I would put Winters Bone right at the top of that list.

Many of the films listed above used Red to create a distinctly modern look.
But that film... Projected in 35, I completely believed it was shot on 35, with a thick DI... Nope. Red One MX.

And wasn't that the goal, to honor film with a suitable heir? Not sure if any camera has done this, but Michael McDonough came as close as the sensor would allow.

Actually, Winter's Bone was shot with the original M sensor. The first thing Michael shot on MX was Vera Farmiga's Higher Ground.

Matt, Great stuff as usual. I really enjoyed the BTS video.

I can't help but wonder why Snowwhite and the Huntsman was listed. I realize a good portion of the VFX shots were filmed with the Epic, but listing it is highly deceptive considering the productions main shooting format was anamorphic. I remember when a thread was first made about it people went through the "OMG it looks like film!!" phase again. Well... That's because it is film.

Was it 65 mainly?

Well there's always 'the best tool for the job' and it's often arguable!

And then there's 'the customer is always right' - he who insists on paying for Alexa gets Alexa - or gets someone else to shoot it.

But apart from that the only reason not to shoot EPIC is being a plain old contrarian :-)

Is Steve Jobs forgotten already? (I don't think Jim would take offense in being compared to Jobs....)

Agreed to a certain extent with the main difference being Red listens to their end users and Apple decrees what they think you should be using.

Plus, Apple makes their products overseas and then hoards the 100 Billion or so exorbitant profits. Red makes Epics and Scarlets in their country of origin and instead of selling their product at a premium to like products, sells them at a discount to lesser products.
