RED Gemini Used Advice

Hello!

I'm looking at two different used Geminis at the moment. One is standard and other is what I believe an upgraded EPIC to Gemini now. Since this would be my first purchase I was wondering does it matter if one is from a previous body and fully upgraded now? Or better to go with a standard Gemini? Thanks!

With everything else equal I would go with the non upgraded. But there are way more important checks.
Shoot some footage, check for dead pixels, laser damage, dirt, smeer.
Check connections are working and not wobbling, lens mount condition...
Worn out screws can be changed but are often a sign that a rental camera was abused with ill adapted tools in the field...
Sevice history and runtime, although I would rather get a camera used for 2000 hours by one team in a studio than an ex-rental with 500 hours in the hands of less careful users. Make sure you test and if you buy without testing check out the sellers reputation and use PayPal or similar to avoid losing you money.

As far as I know you could never upgrade an epic with a gemini chip. Gemini only came in a DSMC2, or a ranger body.

The seller may have meant an upgrade from Epic-W to Gemini, which is what I had done. Many of us bought the 8K Epic-W upon release due to a considerable discount from Scarlet-W delays. Later after the Gemini released, Epic-W owners were offered the option to sensor swap for the 5K Gemini sensor.

When the Gemini was first released, RED sold it as an Epic-W for a couple months and then quickly went to the Unified DSMC2. They updated the existing purchasers of Epic-W Gemini to all DSMC2 components.

It's essentially identical.

Yes I was able to confirm it was an EPIC-W now fully redone to Gemini
