  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED future...

Personally, I have no problem with RED monopolizing the entire image making market. FINALLY a company in the pulse of social media that operates with pure passion. Everytime I see Ted I smile just because he's always oozing with excitement and passion!

Well, competition is good for the customer. So when, in about five years, there IS some competition for the Epic, we'll all be better off - right? That is, if Jim and co can sit still that long.

On second thoughts ...

When I first heard about RED in 2005, I wished I had the money to buy one. When I saw what you already created at IBC 2006, I was amazed. The whole ‘scam’ thing sounded to me like camera companies were scared or people not understanding what it was you were doing. I totally understood that sometimes you need to tell your client that you know you can do something, while in reality you only have a basic idea how to accomplish it or not even that much. So I never for a second thought of RED as a scam. As you’ve said before, you still don’t know what you’re doing and everything is subject to change. I like that because it keeps you thinking outside the box, not being locked into something.

I think that whatever is in development now, the greatest asset of RED is this forum. RED is creating our dream products and the fact that I can ask questions or make suggestions about development and getting response is unheard of. No other company I know operates like that and I think a big part of the success of RED is that almost open door and approachability.

Jim, you are absolutely making history with this. I know I’m not the first one saying these things, but they are true and you deserve to hear them again and again. Keep surprising us with more products and thoughts.

Only thing I have to ask is ‘when is the documentary “How RED changed the movie industry” due?’ ;).

I think Sony, Canon and others are working on similar tech. The difference is, they built their businesses around very slowly releasing just enough new tech so that people buy their new cameras year after year.

Now here comes Red, and they are not playing by the rules! :D These companies are too big and slow to be able to respond to this. Interesting times we live in. ;)

In the beginning, some said that RED was a scam. Now some say that RED is a one trick wonder. I have said that "the 1st is the worst".

So which is it? Is RED likely to last?

I guess this post is to say that we have more in development than we know what to do with. Our sensor program (the heart of a camera company) is way beyond my wildest expectations. We have stuff in the works that would scare you. I am shocked. Every day I wake up, the realities of what we dreamed are becoming a reality... and more. It is pretty surreal. EPIC (a nuclear reactor in a matchbox) is just the beginning. Hard to believe... but true.

Obsolescence obsolete. All the things we are doing forward work with what we are doing now. That was the concept. That is real today.

I thought I saw the future in 2005 when the decision to build the RED ONE was conceived. I also thought that was a big plan. While I guess it was... I see a much more advanced future now. Stay tuned. We have just warmed up the engine.

Jim

heh heh heh.....

Someone had a good day at the office today...

Congrats to whatever you accomplished!

You've already created the most advanced ASIC which requires half the power consumption for twice the power.

I look forward to carrying all my RED gear in the NEW RED SUV- which of course will be a Hummer sized vehicle with a Honda Civic sized engine/power consumption.

Geez Jim it was a walk up start. Of course you guys are gonna blaze a trail and provide a content capture system that will allow art for its sake unhindered by unobtainable equipment. What's that old saying about revolution being available to whoever wants to pick it up. The timing was right you threw out the coordinates your team delivered the ordinance the revolution is here. I have watched via this forum for a few years and it's crystal clear. I think the question EVERYBODY needs to ask themselves is pretty simple "Have you EVER regretted buying a high quality tool?" My cheque book is ready just tell me where to send the $$$. This feels the same as when I first found out about the power of Mac computers. Bring it, I wanna make some pretty images.

That post scares me - especially with Jarreds and Deans comments - what have you seen last night? Full spectrum sensor with no grain, 3d build in through microlenses, magic depth channel, post adjustable motionblur, 1023fps, 30bit, 100k lines in the package of 35mm? :D sounds a bit like it.

I feel like RED is going to rule the world... Like when EPIC/SCarlets ship they are going to turn into all those crazy ass designs and murder us all... My favorite is still the picture of the epic being restrained by chains by little scarlet people... cnat find it though maybe someone else could post... But hey RED bring it on, I wouldnt mind dying at the hand of the most advance peice of cinema gear

If Jim was in charge of Nasa we would have had Moon Bases on the Moon by now.

Oh, and Red would have a store on Mars by 2050. ;)

Lucky?

Lucky?

Since Im new to this field, I feel lucky that I got in at the cusp of the Future.
Now of course Id trade that any day for the years most of you here have ;)
Thanks Jim and the gang for having this realm available to newbies like me :)
Im at NAB first thing Monday morning.
Anyone lining up the night before ;)

This is what I love about Red. You guys are so much more than just a company that builds cameras to sell to people, you are building an entire community of filmmakers, video producers, artists, built on passion and love for the art.

As a future Scarlet/Epic owner, I'm very excited to be apart of this community.
