  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red footage is black..help needed

If you are using REDcine,
1- Go to Color Tab
2- Check you color settings, If its -100 than change it to 0
It should work...

I just went thru the same thing. An unexperienced DP played with the controls and I never could find what he did. But in short, everything played back black.

Like Kwan said though, in RedCine the RGB were all down to 0,0,0. Dialed 'em back up and recreated the MOV's and they were fine. A little scary to say the least initially......

I just upgraded to build 21 and the problem solved itself:)

I had this issue a little while ago with some footage that was sent to me. It seemed that the Gamma was set to 0 on set.

In Recine after clicking on the Color button at the top of the interface it brought everything back.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Agreed. About a 99.9% chance your footage is just fine, just being told to play with a gamma of 0. Just meta data getting confused, nothing wrong.

I have had this happen, I dont think its the gamma... I think if you play with your S CURVE youll see an image immediately, just pull it up or down and the image will pop up.

That could potentially be because you are adding an RSX file the moment you play with the color or curves in your software. There for creating new gamma settings.

Thanks everyone for the fast response, you just saved me from a potential heart attack, changing the color settings worked. a big relief, especially on christmas day.

Thanks again

Had a bunch of footage sent to us recently with exactly the same situation. REDcine sorted it no problems. Out of interest:

How does Build 21 fix this? We were on Build 21 and still had the problem. Was your footage build 20 or build 21?

Whenever you shoot with a rental camera - you really should to go to RESTORE under MAINTENANCE and check each box and restore three times - user, look, system - I don't know why they haven't added a "ALL" checkbox yet (PLEASE Stuart!) ... this is the only way to clear any and all settings and we find some folks do strange things with this camera.

Once you've brought the files RGB back up from zero in RedCine, what's the fastest way to get them into usable files for FCP?

We just had an incidence of something similar but bright blue images. The Colour temperature and tint data seem incorrect for some reason. We are still working on a solution but the media is fine.

This happened to me on a shoot, after doing some takes I decided to download and check the footage. All the clips were black and then I noticed that rgb values were wrong so I adjusted them in Redalert. I checked the camera settings afterward and found out that in playback settings, it was set to "Clip" instead of "Camera".

If you have incorrect metadata, such as the RGB sliders being set to 0, and still want your quicktimes to be correct, you can of course go through them one by one in RedAlert, but Clipfinder makes it very easy to adjust all of them.

Load all your rushes, step through them and reset the sliders in the look settings. the other metadata will probably still be OK (colour balance etc) so you don't want to lift and stamp unless you know the settings for each shot are the same.

Then to rebuild the proxy quictktimes, select all and under edit run "Make Quicktimes" and go and put the kettle on!
