  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Footage from the booth?

Strongbad-
You are correct: Raw footage finds itself on the original LTO tapes, so yes, with the proper log and Final Cut Pro or Avid EDL, we can always re-load the appropriate R3D files from LTO and do a batch conform in FCP back to Prores or in Scratch. All clients leave with the ability to reconform to Quicktime or 2K/4K DPX any any point in the future. We simply don't physically "store" the elements at PlasterCITY once the job is complete.

As far as downloading the reel online, sorry. Only limited permission was obtained to show clips in the reel and some of the footage in the reel has yet to be released.
This early in the game, it is important that 4K demo media that went through a DI is screened in proper viewing environments. As you know, there are a lot of people out there who have yet to become believers and sometimes evaluating compressed media online yields negative results that opens the RedCode codec up to unfair criticism. I, myself, would love to get this footage out to everyone to see how it looks as H.264, but the licensing is a nightmare and we'll all likely have to spend a month explaining our way out of the mess made by an H.264 8bit banding sky.
bummer, I know.

Amen to that. I hate the online demo reel especially for showing off digital cinema cameras. ProRes is fine but only if everyone promises to not look at it on an uncalibrated LCD.

Ooops, just seeing this thread now!

The car crash bit with the band in the middle was mine, a video for a band called "Pierce The Veil", track called "Yeah Boy and Doll Face". I directed and D.P.'d.

The label has yet to release it as they had another video release by a bigger band that would compete with it, so they're waiting a little bit and dropping it when it can get all the attention they want. I'm guessing at Warped Your when the band has high visibility.

These are the white room/cob web scenes the guy presenting the video at NAB said was shot by an AC who snuck the Red camera away from another shoot at night and shot this in his room.

Considering this has turned out to be a music video with some pretty famous actors, I'd say he was either mis-informed or pulling our leg. :sarcasm:

This set in his room? Hmmm LMAO :)

Conform v Grade

Conform v Grade

So Scratch is only being used for the conform and then to Pablo for the grade?

Robert-
Yes, we used Scratch for the conform to DPX and Pablo for the 4K grading.
We use Scratch to process all our RedCode for DPX RAW or LOG grading as well as 1-light dailies for HD tape mastering. We use Pablo to do the final grade in LOG or LIN space on the Christie CP2000.
