  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED EVF with EPIC-M?

RED EVF (Original) appears to work just fine on the EPIC-M. Just tried it myself.

It worked earlier today on 1.6.12 and just tested now on 1.6.20 and works perfectly.

Interesting. I tested a few weeks ago at Offhollywood (can't recall what build) and it was just the pink flashing screen others have reported. Seems it's fixed; excellent!

oh, it works with 1.6.20 Michael? I tested with 1.4.x when I first got the camera and it never worked. That's great if it does work with the old EVF for now.

Norm

Most definitely works with 1.6.20. Tested it this morning.

Cool, same image quality I'm assuming. Anything different in there? Menus show up? Buttons work on the viewfinder?

Hi Norm,

You can see everything on the menus which is great. I've heard that the Bomb EVF has less vertical resolution and so does not show the full menus. Is that true?

One strange thing is that we cannot see the toggle menu (recycle icon) in the upper right although there is room for it. Perhaps that is a touch screen function. We were able to program one of the buttons on the side handle to toggle the menu so it's not necessary but just strange we cannot see the toggle icon on the EVF.

Well, tried with the new build and keep working yesterday. But somehow, it tsimply doesn't work today. Just the flashing magenta screen. Tried several cables and 3 evfs and got nothing.

Any ideas?

My Original EVF is three years old. Could there have been differences in early manufacturing?

I know is my particular original RED EVF works just fine with my EPIC-M and firmware 1.6.20.

Personal Opinion (unfounded) - The original EVF requires more amperage - when connected the EVF builds up charge in its capacitors, and then display initializes. This is why sometimes it works, and sometimes not - and why you can sometimes get it to work by plugging and unplugging a cable. I know that from my testing, you can make it work half of the time, but not really in a dependable way that I would trust any impatient person not to completely flip out about on a motion picture set. Maybe it can be fixed, maybe shorter cables or cables with higher conductivity in the filaments? We will probably find out sooner or later. Do yourself a favor
