Hi everyone,

I'm only getting a max frame rate of 96.39fps in 4K FF. Am I missing something here? I'm supposed to get all the way to 120fps, in WS mode, 150FPS.

512GB RED minimag
compression ratio 22:1 (just to make sure it's not that)
no HDRX enabled
r3d files only, no prores, etc
project: 23.98FPS

Thanks guys!

Take a look at LOOKAROUND in your monitoring settings. This is what is pointed out above - it allows you to see outside of your recording area but will limit your framerate. I can't remember the exact menu structure but take a look in your ops guide if you cant find it in Monitoring.

Problem solved! I figured it out the same day. It was "look around". I don't even know what it does.

Thanks!

I don't even know what it does.

Brendan touched on it above, but to expand on it: lookaround is a feature so that you can shoot at a cropped window, while monitoring what is beyond the edges of your frame. It's a useful feature for operators because they can monitor the edges of the frame and better avoid things like lights, stands, etc. Like if you need to stop panning at a specific spot before a light stand is going to enter the frame, you'll be able to see it in your lookaround area before it enters the recorded area.

But it limits the framerates because you're still reading out the larger area on the sensor, throwing away the framerate benefit you get from reading out a smaller area.
