Red Epic skateboard test with Vivitar 7mm lens

[Adam Moffat]

I stumbled across this lens in my closet the other day and now that I have a Canon Mount decided to put to test it out on the Red Epic.

I think it works really well and it was only 300 bucks!

I know Vivitar also makes a 35 and 85 for canon, the nice thing it has a manual iris on the lens super easy to use. I would be curious to see how they work.

Enjoy pretty crazy that I can skateboard while shooting such high quality footage.

It's going to make handheld so much easier for ride along. I can't wait still my stage 3 clears customs!!!!! I was thinking of going peleng. Did you have to crop the Vivatar?

[Adam Moffat]

I didn't at 4kHD I did at 5k I have the Peleng as well works great!

Just curious on your exposure here. Shutter speed looks to be at or near 180. Was the lens stopped right down? Any ND filter?

I just recently bought a pl mount Peleng 8mm and it looks great! I'm literally on the way to film some skating now. I still need to get the sliding top handle though.

The vivitar 7mm is a rebadged samyang 8mm lens. don't know why there's a 1mm difference. still the same thing.
Vivitar, Rokinon, Walimex, Bower and Pro-Optic.. all these are Samyang rebranded lenses.
Matt Duclos once tested the 35mm against a Zeiss and the results were pretty awesome especially for the price,
with the samyang being extremely close to the quality of the zeiss.

The 8mm is now being built declicked and with gears (in germany it costs only 20€ over the standard 8mm price - only available as preorder at the moment. announced for mid march)

really cool sequence glad you didn't stumble...

I thought the image looked really nice...Very interesting that you can get that value ratio with a lens priced in that range...

To Patrick's point, I kept thinking...oh don't fall...my skateboarding ability would have put me and the Epic in the hospital...
