Just a simple question, all of the old red Epics and new Scarlet images are CG, right? So who produces these images? Surely besides being the best camera company in the world they couldn't excel in the CG industry as well? Or does Red contract somebody to do it? I know it's not important but I am into 3D. :thumbup1:

Maybe they did these CG images themselves for R & D and design purposes ?

They're done in-house as part of the design process.

Would be cool. So one Red engineer decided to purchase $4,000 software and then pays $200 to learn with Digital Tutors even though CG has nothing to do with his career? :w00t:

You'll have to ask Matt for how he does it - but I've sat and watched him and work and he's a wizard.

I hardly think you can say CG has nothing to do with engineering at this point. You can make a detailed CG model a lot faster and cheaper than a physical one.

Also, considering the complex simulations available in software like SolidWorks where you can test things like stress and heat tolerances, I'd say it pretty much pays for itself the first time you use it.

it's real easy to render out decent looking pre-viz without any extra work. Solidworks can render out simple models, and there are several open source renderers that does a better job. and a few pretty penny for something like Maxwell renderer, you can easily render photo realistic without any cg artists:-)

Interesting. The great benefit computer technology has given us over the years is unquestionable. Both in the industrial field as well as in the Cinema. I'm currently working on a short film which will feature some of my new 3D skills, no its not shot on red :( , since I don't have the budget for actually renting a UH-60 Blackhawk for a little cameo I want in the film, I'm producing it with CGI. Here's a little preview of my work on it so far:

Note that the model is sill missing rotors and landing gear

Virtual Modelling is done by my brother Levi, texturing, rendering, and compositing by me. Tell me what you guys think.

When i saw that copter when I came into the thread I honestly thought it was real cause it was for a second and i scrolled up, came back down and just noticed all the stuff missing and read the post haha...

So i'd say its pretty damn good...
