  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Epic only records 2-3 seconds! Also after repair from RED.

Well cancelling the shoot is one way to make sure the camera worked!!! I`m sure you must find it impossible to offer your camera to productions now.

Ulf is correct - pixel quality does not matter if build quality is a concern.

that's the point. i can't trust my epic anymore, which is sad. hope RED germany will find the problem. i'm scared they won't, which is realistic!

Good luck. Will you buy a 2nd Brain? I have heard a number of people do that after their confidence in the camera is knocked.

Although recently I read an example of both the main AND backup Brain dieing on the SAME job! What do you do after that!?!

Good question. It's crazy that you have to buy a 2nd brain to be safe during a project. I have 40 shooting days for two feature films in a row this summer and a production with a normal budget for television doesn't rent a replacement body, because they are used to the reliability of an alexa.

I really hope RED solves the problem soon or they even can find the issue. Otherwise they should give me an replacement body. If not I have to think about other options. Buying a F55 for my "normal" jobs and renting ALEXAs for my feature film projects. I'm one of a few DPs still working with Epics on feature film sets in Germany and I still love to work with this camera, because you are so flexible, as the body is so small. I also love the image!!

I'm sure RED will find a proper solution how to solve my problem.

This kind of thing is a replacement issue. If it happened to me, twice, I would ask for a refund or a replacement. Lemons occur in all levels of production and how companies deal with that fact ultimately defines them.

My camera, which was also showing this strange 3-second shot problem, has been back to Red in the US for repairs and is now working superbly. I'd like to offer up a big thank you to Red in the UK and the US for taking care of this. It's great to have a restored camera - and restored faith in it.

yep. the camera only has 230 hours on the clock and is 14 months old. scary. red support is great though, but i have the feeling they don't know what's going on. would love to get a replacement body...

The SSD percentage did not go down while recording. But there are files on the SSD. File size for each clip is 2-3 second clip is 69,5 - 69,7 MB.

They should have given you a replacement after the first 'fix'
