Hey Guys,
I haven't posted much on reduser as of yet and wanted to use this post to give massive kudos to RED for their EPIC but also to introduce myself and share some behind the scenes pictures from a recent TVC shoot i did in rural china. Hopefully this is the right place to post! Sadly I can't share any footage as of yet, but I can post some behind the scenes pictures. This was a shoot for a well known US shoe company which also has a china branch. For every pair of shoes purchased, they give one pair of shoes to a poor kid who needs it. Some of these kids walk 10KM's to school every day and they do it barefoot.
For this project, the client wanted highest possible quality and I wanted to integrate slow motion elements and have flexibility in post, so I opted to rent an EPIC. This might just be the start of a love story and empty wallet in the future. Hope you enjoy some pictures, I will update this thread when I am allowed to post some footage
The setup consisted of: EPIC-M with 5' LCD and Bomb EVF, x top plate, Angenieux Optimo DP 16-42 and 30-80, Sachtler Video 20, Genus Elite Mattebox & Genus Superior Follow Focus
We were filming mostly in natural light except for a few shots. A lot of the film was based around the kids school, which is built out of a few bricks and mostly sand and clay. The Bomb EVF really helped with shooting in those sunny environments.
I filmed loads of different establishing shots and the 5K really made them look pretty. The amount of detail you can capture is just mindblowing!
I also found a new camera assistant along the way. All you guys with your fancy AC's with remote follow focus and all that, I found one who get's the job done and he works for candy :w00t:
Sadly, the air in the chinese mountains isn't that great this time of the year. In the morning and evening there's quite a lot of haze, which kind of prevents you from getting a clear view, but I think we made the best of it.
I have shot with the EPIC before but I only really noticed how impressive this camera is on this shoot. It's incredibly robust, performed perfectly without a hitch and was a joy to work with. We were able to get a lot of shots in extremely high quality in a short period of time. Post workflow was easy enough too! Thanks Jim & Team.
A few words about me to finish this thread, as I haven't posted here before: My name is Phil Arntz, I am a young cinematographer (17 years old) and have been working in this industry for 2 1/2 years now. The last year has been the most eventful for me and I've done a lot of interesting projects all around the globe. I quit school 2 years early to pursue my career in cinematography and haven't regretted it one bit (so far :smile5: ). I am really looking forward to mingling with all the redusers and getting to know you all a bit better. I am also looking at the possibility of buying an EPIC in the near future.
